Atos Group is an Italian manufacturing company active in the design and production of components and systems for electrohydraulics, including valves, cylinders, electronic drivers, pumps and servopumps, filters and hydraulic systems.[1]

Founded by Luciano Crespi in 1957 in Cinisello Balsamo, in the province of Milan, the company transferred its production to Sesto Calende, in the province of Varese, in 1973, where its main headquarters are located.[2]

The Group has approximately 750 employees and operates in more than 80 countries through eight production sites located in Italy, China, India and the United States.[3]

History

[edit]

Origins and relocation to Sesto Calende

[edit]

Atos was founded in 1957 in Cinisello Balsamo, Milan, as a manufacturing company in the hydraulics sector. In 1973, valve production was gradually transferred to Sesto Calende, in the province of Varese, which became the Group's main headquarters. In 1979, the Cylinders and Electronics divisions were established, with activities expanding to linear actuation and the introduction of electronic control solutions in hydraulic systems, in line with the first motion control applications.[4]

In 1994, the Ex-proof range was launched, comprising explosion proof hydraulic components designed for operation in potentially explosive environments.[4] In 2000, production of the first valves with integrated digital electronics began, marking the start of the transition from analogue to digital technologies. In 2014, this transition was completed with the full conversion of all valve production to digital electronics.[1][2]

International expansion

[edit]

Starting from the 2000s, the Group expanded through the establishment of international production subsidiaries and the acquisition of third-party companies.

In 2004, Wato was established, a joint venture with Haimen Youweili Hydraulic Industry, a Chinese manufacturer of hydraulic systems, for the production and commercialisation of high-quality hydraulic components in China, with Atos as the majority shareholder.

In 2010, the Wato joint venture was dissolved and Atos Shanghai was founded, a wholly-owned subsidiary, which moved to its new company-owned production site in 2014.

In 2015, the US company FPA Inc. was acquired, renamed Atos North America, and in 2019, its production plant was established.[3]

In 2017, Atos Induction was founded, and Raccorderie TAA was acquired; in 2018, the Group purchased Scoda, reorganised as the Systems Division. In the same year, the Atos India branch was established, and a new production plant became operational in 2026.[2]

Group Structure

[edit]

The Atos Group consists of:

  • 6 Atos division: Valves, Electronics, Cylinders, Pumps and servopumps, Filters, Systems;
  • 6 foreign subsidiaries: Atos Shanghai, Atos India, Atos North America, Atos South America, Atos Russia, Atos Korea;
  • Atos Induction, a startup specializing in inductive heating solutions for industrial applications;
  • Raccorderie TAA, specialized in fittings, valves, and fuel rails for automotive industry.[2]

Fields of Application

[edit]

Atos' electrohydraulic solutions find application in various industrial contexts.[4] The main fields include:

  • high-performance industrial systems, integrating hydraulic and electronic components, used in sectors such as manufacturing, plastics, defence, wind power, construction, agriculture, and transport;[5][6]
  • explosion-proof components for potentially explosive environments, used in the Oil&Gas, mining, and energy sectors, complying with international safety standards;[7]
  • products made of stainless steel for operation in environments characterised by low temperatures, aggressive fluids, or corrosive atmospheres, finding application in the marine, food, chemical, and nuclear sectors. [1]
