Araz Hotel (Persian: هتل آراز) is a five-star hotel in Nowshahr, Mazandaran Province, Iran. It is located in the coastal area of Chelak, about 10 kilometres from Nowshahr on the Nowshahr–Noor Road. The hotel opened on 1 April 2025 and forms part of a large-scale hospitality development that was reported during its construction and at its opening by Iranian and international industry media.[1][2]
Location
[edit]Araz Hotel is situated in Chelak, a coastal area of Nowshahr in western Mazandaran. The site lies along the Nowshahr–Noor Road and near the Caspian Sea. Pre-opening coverage described the project as a coastal hotel development in the Nowshahr area, while later reports identified its location specifically in Chelak.[2][3]
The hotel's coastal setting places it between the Caspian Sea and the forested and mountainous landscape of northern Iran. Its position near the coast was among the characteristics mentioned in reporting on the project before its completion.[3]
Development and construction
[edit]The Araz project was reported internationally before the hotel opened. A 2017 report by Commercial Interiors UK, produced following a design-and-interiors trade mission to Iran arranged with the British Embassy in Tehran, identified the project as the construction of a 650-bed Araz Hotel on the Caspian Sea and described it as intended to become the largest hotel in Iran. The report noted that the construction, design and fit-out were being organized internally by BAM Group.[2]
An Iranian construction-project archive published in October 2016 described the Araz coastal hotel in Nowshahr as a five-star project then under construction, with more than 510 rooms and suites in a planned 25-storey building. The same source attributed the architectural design to Iranian architect Farzad Daliri.[4]
The project's design documentation later associated the development with a 30-storey building. The Tavan Niroo Saze Engineering Group lists Araz International Hotel in Nowshahr as a project designed by Farzad Daliri and dates its concept design proposal to 1397 in the Iranian calendar (2018).[5]
A 2024 report by ISNA, published from its Mazandaran bureau, covered a visit by Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Reza Salehi-Amiri to Araz Hotel in Nowshahr while the project was still under development. The report discussed the hotel in the context of the expansion of sea-oriented tourism infrastructure in the region.[3]
An architecture project archive identifies Ebda Tarh Gostar (E.T.G.) as consultant and BAM Construction Group as the construction company and describes Araz as a coastal hotel development in Chelak.[6]
Architecture
[edit]Araz Hotel was designed by Farzad Daliri. Project records published during the construction period identify Daliri as the architect, while later engineering documentation also attributes the project to him.[4][5]
The completed hotel rises 30 floors and contains 515 rooms and suites. A project report published by Hotel Design describes the development as a five-hectare hotel complex with 515 rooms and suites and 11 restaurants and cafés.[7]
The building occupies a large coastal site with views toward the Caspian Sea and the surrounding landscape. A project description published before the opening reported a built area of roughly 105,000 to 110,000 square metres, while later reporting associated the completed hotel with a 30-storey structure and 515 rooms.[8][1]
Opening
[edit]Araz Hotel was inaugurated on 1 April 2025 in Nowshahr in a ceremony attended by Mohammad Reza Aref, First Vice President of Iran, and Reza Salehi-Amiri, Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, along with provincial officials.[1][9]
IRNA reported that the hotel had been developed on a site of about five hectares with an investment of approximately US$150 million. The same report gave figures of 30 floors, 515 rooms and 1,200 beds and estimated the project's employment capacity at around 900 people.[1]
Hami Shomal described the opening as the completion of a lengthy private-sector tourism project and reported that the investment was intended to contribute to the expansion of tourism infrastructure in Mazandaran.[9]
Facilities
[edit]Araz Hotel combines accommodation with food-and-beverage, sports, recreation and event facilities. Contemporary descriptions of the project identify multiple restaurants and cafés, swimming and spa facilities, sports courts, recreational areas and spaces for conferences and ceremonies.[7][10]
The hotel offers a range of rooms and suites, while its dining and recreation facilities include restaurants and cafés, swimming and spa areas, sports facilities and other indoor and outdoor recreational spaces.[10]
The project also includes facilities for conferences, meetings and ceremonies, extending the complex's use beyond accommodation.[7]
Events
[edit]Since its opening, Araz Hotel has hosted events outside its normal hospitality operations. In July and August 2025, the hotel was used as a venue for the 21st National Builders and Designers Summit in Mazandaran, an industry event attended by thousands of construction professionals, architects, investors and related specialists.[11]
In September 2026, the hotel's beachfront courts hosted the Araz Cup, a 200-point national beach-tennis competition. Iran's national broadcasting sports service reported that the tournament was contested by 91 teams, including 66 men's teams and 25 women's teams.[12]
Media coverage
[edit]The hotel continued to receive coverage after its opening. In September 2026, Hamshahri published a profile describing Araz as having been selected as Iran's largest green hotel and discussed the property's coastal setting and tourism role.[13]
