Apollo Micro Systems (AMS) is an Indian defence and aerospace electronics company headquartered in Hyderabad, Telangana. It designs, develops and manufactures electronic and electromechanical systems for missile, naval, aerospace, space, electronic-warfare and homeland-security applications.[1]
The company supplies components, subsystems and integrated systems used by Indian defence organisations, public-sector defence manufacturers and space agencies. Its shares have been listed on the National Stock Exchange of India and the Bombay Stock Exchange since January 2018.[2][3]
History
[edit]Apollo Micro Systems was established by Baddam Karunakar Reddy in 1985 as a proprietary business providing electronic design services. During the 1990s, it began developing processor boards and onboard electronic systems for defence applications.[4]
The business was incorporated as Apollo Micro Systems Private Limited on 3 March 1997. It was converted into a public limited company on 1 April 2017 and renamed Apollo Micro Systems Limited.[1]
In 2000, the company supplied an indigenous payload checkout system for the Indian Space Research Organisation. It subsequently expanded into telemetry equipment, missile-launch control systems, torpedo electronics, avionics and electronic-warfare systems.[4]
Initial public offering
[edit]Apollo Micro Systems conducted an initial public offering in January 2018. The company offered shares to raise ₹156 crore, primarily to meet its working-capital requirements and for general corporate purposes.[5]
The offering was subscribed approximately 248 times. Its shares began trading on the NSE and BSE on 22 January 2018.[2]
Operations
[edit]Apollo Micro Systems develops electronic, embedded-software and electromechanical equipment for land, air, naval and space platforms. Its products and services include missile-launcher controllers, guidance and navigation electronics, torpedo homing systems, electronic-warfare equipment, avionics modules, telemetry systems and satellite-data equipment.[6]
The company also provides mechanical, thermal and structural engineering, environmental testing, cable-harness manufacturing, system integration and calibration services for defence and aerospace equipment.[7]
Its registered office and principal manufacturing operations are located in the Mallapur industrial area of Hyderabad.[8]
Acquisition of IDL Explosives
[edit]In November 2025, Apollo Micro Systems completed the acquisition of the entire share capital of IDL Explosives Limited from GOCL Corporation, a company associated with the Hinduja Group. The acquisition was made through Apollo Defence Industries Private Limited, a subsidiary of Apollo Micro Systems.[9]
The transaction had previously been valued at approximately ₹107 crore. IDL Explosives manufactures industrial explosives and detonators and holds licences relating to the production of military-grade explosives. Following the acquisition, it became a step-down subsidiary of Apollo Micro Systems.[9]
SAVIOR-ASW project
[edit]In July 2026, the Indian Navy selected Apollo Micro Systems for a Make-II prototype-development project involving an autonomous semi-submersible maritime platform. The project was named the Semi-Submersible Autonomous Vessel for Intelligence, Operations and Reconnaissance – Anti-Submarine Warfare, or SAVIOR-ASW.[10]
The proposed unmanned platform was designed for extended maritime surveillance and intelligence-gathering operations, including the detection and classification of underwater threats. The project marked the company's entry into autonomous maritime and underwater-warfare platforms.[10]
Under the Make-II procurement category, the prototype-development stage imposed no financial obligation on the government. Procurement would be considered only after the successful development and demonstration of the prototype.[11]
