Aeroflot Plus was a Russian airline based out of Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow. The airline was owned by the Austrian carrier Jetalliance from 2010 to 2012 but initially the airline was known as Aeroflot Plus from 1996 to 2010.[1][2]

History

[edit]

The airline was formed in 1996 by Aeroflot. At the time airlines in Russia were popping up left and right in a way similar to the game whack a mole and this airline was no exception to this time.[tone] Along with the hundreds of carriers in Russia many of them had limited cash and would cease flying within a year. Aeroflot plus had the advantage of having Aeroflot itself back the airline.[citation needed]

The airline would add it's first Tupolev TU 134 in the year 1999 for it's charter services and would reduce the seating of the airframe down to 32 people. The aircraft was also equipped with a Salon and had 4 compartments.[3]

In 2006 the airline begin to go purchase it's own aircraft as the Tupolevs and Yakolevs in the fleet of Aeroflot plus were too loud to land at most airports in Europe. This would allow the company to expand it's own services.[4]

In 2010 the airline was sold partially to Jetalliance and would be renamed Jetalliance East, 2% of the shares were also held by a private individual.[5]

The airline had it's AOC revoked along with the airline Jet 2000 Airlines in 2011 with both being cited as having a lack of reserve aircraft in their fleets which consited of the same type of aircraft (ex. an amount of Yakovlev YAK 42s).[6]

In October of 2011 the airline was given clearance to fly again after it passed approvals and also was able to succeed in it's purpose of proving that it did in fact have a sufficient reserve fleet of the same aircraft type.[tone] The airline at the time had a single Yakolev YAK 42 and a single Cessna Citation Sovereign along with a single Cessna CJ3.[7]

In July of 2012 the airline had it's AOC revoked after the airline's three month suspension period had expired. After the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl plane crash the Russian CAO decided that an airline must have at least 3 identical aircraft which saw the airline suspended again for the second time and this time it failed so it was revoked. At the time it had requested it's own AOC to be suspended and also was changing it's business model to be the handling of aircraft sales after both Aeroflot and Allianceair deemed the company to be unviable.[8]
