David Lo is a computer scientist whose research concerns software engineering, data mining, and artificial intelligence.[1][2] He is Vice Provost (Research) and OUB Chair Professor of Computer Science at Singapore Management University (SMU).[3] He was elevated to IEEE Fellow in 2022 and elected an ACM Fellow in 2023.[1][2]
Education and career
[edit]Lo received a bachelor's degree in computer engineering from Nanyang Technological University in 2004 and a PhD in computer science from the National University of Singapore in 2008. He joined SMU as a lecturer in May 2008.[4]
Research
[edit]Lo's work applies data-mining and artificial-intelligence methods to software engineering. The IEEE Computer Society cited his contributions to combining software engineering and data mining when it elevated him to Fellow.[1] The Association for Computing Machinery cited his contributions to artificial intelligence and software engineering, including software analytics and human-in-the-loop automation, when it elected him a Fellow.[2]
In 2025, Lo received the Mining Software Repositories Foundational Contribution Award for research involving the use of bug and test data in software analysis and automation.[5]
