Creditas Group is a Czech family-owned investment group with businesses in banking, energy and real estate. The group took its present form in 2021, when Pavel Hubáček brought his banking and investment businesses under the Creditas name.[1][2]

The group includes Banka Creditas and MeDirect in financial services, UCED in energy, and Creditas Real Estate. It operates in several European countries, including the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Malta and Belgium.[3]

History

[edit]

Pavel Hubáček founded the investment group Unicapital in 2013. Its early investments included energy, real estate and agriculture.[1] Hubáček also invested in Creditas, then a Czech credit union, which received a banking licence in 2016.[4][5]

In 2021, Hubáček reorganised his businesses under the Creditas name. Banka Creditas and the former Unicapital companies were placed under CREDITAS B.V., a Dutch holding company.[1]

Banka Creditas acquired Expobank CZ in 2022. The bank was renamed Max banka and merged into Banka Creditas in October 2024.[6][7]

In 2023, it acquired the British electricity producer InterGen, which operated about 2.8 GW of generating capacity in the United Kingdom.[8] The company was sold to Sev.en Global Investments in 2024.[9]

In September 2025, Banka Creditas completed the acquisition of MDB Group, the parent company of MeDirect Bank, after receiving approval from the European Central Bank. MeDirect operates mainly in Malta and Belgium and had more than 160,000 customers and over €6 billion in assets around the time of the acquisition.[10] The acquisition expanded Creditas's banking business into Western Europe.[11]

Operations

[edit]

Financial services

[edit]

Banka Creditas serves retail and corporate customers, while MeDirect offers digital banking and investment services.[11]

Energy

[edit]

UCED is the group's main energy business. The company generates and supplies electricity and heat and operates energy-distribution infrastructure.[3] Creditas has expanded these activities beyond the Czech Republic, including into Slovakia and Poland.[12]

Real estate

[edit]

Creditas Real Estate owns and develops residential and commercial property. Its portfolio includes homes for sale and rental housing.[3]

By 2025, the division had more than 5,500 residential units in its portfolio, according to group CEO Jiří Hrouda.[12] E15 reported in 2026 that its projects had grown from smaller developments to investments worth several billion Czech crowns.[13]

Ownership and management

[edit]

Pavel Hubáček controlled Creditas Group until 2025. That year, he transferred ownership to members of his family and stepped back from management.[14]

Tomáš Hubáček is responsible for banking and financial services. David Hubáček oversees the group's real-estate, development and energy businesses.[14][15] Jiří Hrouda is chief executive of the group.[3]
