Command Code is an artificial intelligence coding agent developed by Command Code AI. It operates through a command-line interface and a desktop application, and can generate and modify source code, run commands and tests, and work with Git repositories.[2] The software supports multiple large language model providers and includes a system for learning a user's coding preferences.[3][4][5]

History

[edit]

Command Code was launched in 2026 by a team led by software developer Ahmad Awais. The company announced a $5 million seed funding round led by Preston-Werner Ventures, the investment firm of Tom Preston-Werner.[6][7]

Features

[edit]

Command Code can edit files, execute shell commands, write and run tests, perform code refactoring, and review changes to software projects.[8] It supports models from providers including OpenRouter, OpenAI, Anthropic, DeepSeek, Qwen, Moonshot AI, and MiniMax.[9]

The software supports interactive and headless operation, Model Context Protocol integration, reusable commands, project memory, custom agents, and parallel development using Git worktrees.[10]

Command Code includes a preference-learning system called Taste. According to its developers, the system analyzes accepted, rejected, and subsequently edited code to learn a developer's preferences and apply them to later tasks.[11]

Desktop application

[edit]

Command Code provides a desktop application for macOS, Linux, and Windows. It includes a graphical interface for interacting with the agent, reviewing file changes, executing commands, and previewing applications.[12]

A September 2026 review tested the desktop application on a development task involving search, filtering, software tests, and responsive interface changes, reporting that the agent completed the task after additional user guidance.[13]

Distribution

[edit]

The command-line client is distributed through npm and requires Node.js 22 or later. It uses the cmd command on macOS and Linux and cmdc on Windows.[14]

Although its source repository is publicly accessible on GitHub, the npm package is designated UNLICENSED rather than being distributed under an open-source license.[15]
