History
[edit]Calgary Football Academy was founded in 2017 by Jeremiah Ogaga.
Based in Abuja, the academy operates football development programmes for young players, including residential and non-residential training, competitive matches, scouting opportunities and structured player development.
The academy's residential programme is primarily designed for players between the ages of 12 and 19 and combines football training with education. Through its development programmes and competitive teams, the academy provides players with opportunities to gain experience in organised football and attract the attention of scouts and clubs. In the 2026 season, Calgary FA participated in the Nationwide League One Division One competition, competing against teams including Fosla Academy, Kogi United and Bussdors United. The club also participated in the NLO Under-19 Division Two competition, where it faced teams including Dante FA and Beautiful Tour Feeders.[1][2][3][4]
Several players developed at Calgary Football Academy have subsequently progressed to professional football in Europe. Brendan Ifeanyi Asomugha developed at the academy before moving to Lithuanian club to join FK Sveikata from where he later moved to FC Džiugas. Another academy graduate, Jeremiah Udoka Onyewuchi, joined Polish club Orawa Jabłonka in 2026. [5][6][7]
Joseph Ogheneghenega Abel was the academy's leading scorer during the 2025–26 season, recording 15 goals and eight assists in 20 appearances.[8][9]
2026 Nationwide League One Division One
[edit]Calgary FA participated in the NLO Division One for the first time in the 2026 season. The club competed in the Area 3 Pitch Centre and was drawn in Group G22. Calgary FA opened its campaign with a 2–1 defeat to A.A FC on 17 April 2026. The club subsequently recorded draws against Beautiful Tour FC and Bussdors United before losing 3–0 to Kogi United on 22 May 2026. The club's participation in the NLO Division One represented an important stage in the development of players within its academy system, providing them with experience in senior competitive football.[10][11]
2026 Nationwide League One Under-19 Division Two
[edit]Calgary FA also participated in the NLO Under-19 Division Two competition during the 2026 season. The team formed part of the academy's youth development structure, providing players in the under-19 age category with competitive experience.[12]
