Brymir is a Finnish melodic death metal band from Helsinki founded in 2006. The band has released four studio albums, with their upcoming fifth album, What We Leave Behind, to be released on 6 October 2026.[1]

Musical style and influences

Brymir and its albums have been described as a variety of genres including melodic death metal,[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8] symphonic metal,[9][10][3][5][6] pagan metal,[11][2][3][12][8] folk metal,[13][3][4][7] Viking metal,[11][10] black metal,[3][12] power metal,[6] and extreme metal.[10] Vocalist Viktor Gullichsen has mentioned some of his most influential albums to be Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia by Dimmu Borgir, Jaktens tid by Finntroll, Wintersun's 2004 self-titled debut, Kivenkantaja by Moonsorrow, and Anticult by Decapitated.[7]

Gullichsen has stated about the band's change of sound in Voices in the Sky, "We've previously had a lot of synth and symphonic layers in our music, and a big part of the way we used to work was centered around those. This time, we wanted to focus more on our actual instruments, as we've come to realize that the human element is the most powerful tool for expression, and whenever a melody, rhythm, or emotion could be conveyed through our hands or our voices, it has much more impact than when presented with programmed orchestras or intricate synth arpeggios—no matter how epic they would be. The most meaningful art draws from the artist's past experiences, and for me, this is true every time—The songs that don't build on real emotions or memories often get stuck on the drawing board."[6]
