Bilaal (also and historically recorded as El Bilal) is a village within Jalalaqsi District of Hiiraan, Somalia situated about 10–12 kilometres west of Jalalaqsi in the Shabelle valley. Settlement is documented in Somalia geographical and administrative records under the names Bilal, Bilaal and El Bilal.[1][2]. FAO SWALIM records the settlement at 3°22′46″N 45°29′32″E / 3.3794°N 45.4922°E and an elevation of 129 metres.[1]
Bilaal is placed within an area of alluvial deposits associated with the Shabelle River. A hydrogeological study published in 1982 recorded that El Bilal village was approximately 40 kilometres south of Bulo Burti along the Shabelle River. The study examined a well at the village that was 55 metres deep and described the material encountered in the borehole as including sands, limestones and marls, with basaltic material at intermediate depths.[2]
The older description of El Bilal as about 40 kilometres south of Bulo Burti and its present administrative association with Jalalaqsi are recorded in different sources.[2][1]
