Bald Range fire is an ongoing wildfire in Summerland, British Columbia in the Okanagan. It started on Friday, August 7, 2026 and quickly exploded up to 5000 hectares, and by August 8 it was 10,000 hectares. As a result, the entire community of Summerland (12,000; the largest evacuation of the summer) was evacuated with nearby Peachland put in Alert. It is one of the most significant and quickest wildfires of the year.[4][5][6][7][8]
The fire has so far caused one death of an 80 year old woman who tried to evacuate.[9] BC premier David Eby declared a state of emergency on August 8 as the fire creates its own weather systems. The fire has in addition devastated nearby Prairie Valley and Faulder,[10] likely damaging Prairie Valley station on the Kettle Valley Steam Railway.[11][12]
