Alex Goryachev (born 1975) is an American author, innovation strategist, and technology executive. He served as Managing Director of Innovation Strategy at Cisco Systems and has served as Innovator-in-Residence at Tulane University since 2019.[1]

Career

Goryachev began his career at Liquid Audio. He later served as Senior Manager of Operations at Napster and worked at IBM Global Services and Pfizer.[2]

He joined Cisco Systems in 2004 and later became Managing Director of Innovation Strategy.[3][4][5][6] In this role, he was responsible for Cisco’s Global Co-Innovation Centers.[7][8]

After leaving Cisco, Goryachev worked in advisory roles with Dell Technologies and Amgen.[9] He also contributed to the development of ISO 56002, an international standard on innovation management systems, through the International Organization for Standardization.[10]

Since 2019, Goryachev has served as Innovator-in-Residence at Tulane University's A.B. Freeman School of Business, where he lectures in the Student Venture Accelerator course and mentors student ventures through the Lepage Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.[1][11]

He was named as a contributor to the California State University's 2024 report Ahead of the Curve.[12]

Goryachev delivered the TEDx talk Everyone is an Entrepreneur – The Art of Innovation in Everyday Life at TEDxKGI in 2018.[13] He also spoke at the SXSW, Adobe MAX, AWS Security Symposium,[14] Google ThinkAI,[15] and World Summit AI.[16]

In 2018, he appeared at the Commonwealth Club of California alongside Cisco executive Maciej Kranz.[17]

In 2025, he delivered a lecture at the University of Texas at Dallas Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science on artificial intelligence and its impact on industry and workforce skills.[18][19] He also delivered a keynote address at the 2025 Stern Future Healthcare Workforce Summit at the University of Delaware, discussing AI in healthcare education and workforce preparation.[20]

In 2026, he delivered the keynote address at Virginia Commonwealth University's Research Weeks event.[21] In June 2026, he delivered a keynote address at the Rotary District 5440 Innovation Summit in Fort Collins, Colorado.[22]

Publications

Goryachev is the author of Fearless Innovation, published by Wiley in 2020, which examines approaches to innovation management and organisational change in business contexts.[23][24][25] The book appeared on the Wall Street Journal Best-Selling Books list.[26]

He has written for Forbes,[27][28] Fast Company,[29][30] and Entrepreneur Magazine.[31] His writings focus on organizational transformation, innovation strategy, and the application of emerging technologies in business and education.[32][33][34][35]
