Ahmed Haouache, also listed as Ahmad Hawash,[2] (Arabic: أحمد هواش; born 14 March 1960) is a Syrian former footballer and manager who is the current manager of Al Ittihad (Aleppo). He spent all but two of his playing years with Al Ittihad (Aleppo).[3]
Club career
[edit]Haouache played for Al Ittihad (Aleppo) between 1973 and 1978 before he moved to Al-Jaish Damascus in 1978. He rejoined Al Ittihad (Aleppo) in 1980, and he retired there in 1985.[1]
As a player, he won the Syrian Premier League in 1978–79 with Al-Jaish Damascus,[4] and the Syrian Cup in 1981–82, 1983–84, and 1984–85 with Al Ittihad (Aleppo).[5]
International career
[edit]Haouache scored seven goals for Syria during 35 matches between 1974 and 1985,[1] and he represented Syria in the men's tournament at the 1980 Summer Olympics.[6] He also played during 1980 AFC Asian Cup qualification, the 1980 AFC Asian Cup, and 1982 FIFA World Cup qualification.[1]
Managerial career
[edit]His first stint as manager of Al-Ittihad (Aleppo) was between 1992 and 1993, and he won the 1992–93 Syrian Premier League title.[7] He moved on to manage Al-Hurriya between 1995 and 1997,[2] and then Shorta Aleppo between 1999 and December 2001, following the club's exit from the 2001 Arab Club Championship,[8] and again until January 2002 when he was dismissed from the club.[9] He was manager of Tishreen between January and May 2002.[9] Between 2003 and 2008, he was at Al-Ittihad (Aleppo) in an executive and technical capacity, overseeing youth development and scouting. During this time, in 2004, he was also the interim head coach of Syria.[10]
He was the manager of Hutteen in 2009 and Jeunesse Sportivo Alep between 2010 and 2011, including during the suspended 2010–11 season,[11] and he rejoined Hutteen again in 2011.[1] In-between two interim spells in 2015 and 2018 respectively with Al Ittihad Aleppo, Haouache rejoined Hutteen for the 2016–17 season.
Haouache was re-appointed as the permanent manager of Al Ittihad (Aleppo) in November 2024;[1] he won the Syrian Premier League in 2024–25 and 2025–26.[12][13]
