Adding a new AfD discussion

Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:

Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|India|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.

Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.

Article was created by the subject, a G11 was rejected as the article was not promotional, and they were subsequently blocked for sockpuppetry, but looking over that I think they were operating in good faith and just woefully unaware of Wikipedia policies. (To be frank, I don't exactly think that was the greatest block.) The article has been subsequently completely rewritten by non-COI editors. The nominator cited WP:NACTOR a few AfDs above this one, and while I'm not all that familiar with how it is usually handled, this actor seems to have starred in multiple notable films (Aaruguru Pativratalu, Buchinaidu Kandriga (film), Prathyardhi), and so I'd say weak keep. 1brianm7 (talk) 06:11, 9 August 2026 (UTC)reply

The Personnel Department issued a notification on Wednesday regarding the appointment of four new Information Commissioners in the State Information Commission. The appointments were made under Section 15(3) of the Right to Information Act, 2005, following Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar's approval. The newly appointed Information Commissioners include Anuj Kumar Sinha, Tanuj Khatri, Amulya Neeraj Khalkho, and Shivpujan Pathak. Their tenure will be effective from the date they take oath. Their tenure will be valid for three years from the date of assuming office or until they attain the age of 65, whichever is earlier. The notification states that the arrival of Information Commissioners in the state will help expedite the disposal of pending cases. Earlier on Wednesday, the Governor gave his approval to the proposal submitted by the state government. Lok Bhavan reported that the Governor approved these appointments subject to certain conditions. He directed the government to ensure the prompt appointment of the Chief Information Commissioner to the Jharkhand State Information Commission. The official Commission website lists the Information Commissioners and their contact details, and serves as the authoritative record of the appointments. I have cited this official source in addition to independent news coverage.

Thank you for the clarification regarding WP:GNG. I have reviewed the concern and have now added three additional independent reliable sources covering Tanuj Khatri in his capacity as a JMM spokesperson. These are separate from the government sources and the routine reports concerning his appointment as State Information Commissioner.

The article now contains independent coverage relating to different periods of his public career, including his earlier student leadership, his subsequent role as JMM spokesperson, and his later appointment as State Information Commissioner.

I understand that holding an office or having a designation does not by itself establish notability, and that passing mentions are insufficient. I have therefore tried to strengthen the article with independent secondary sources rather than relying on the official government record for notability.

Could you please review the newly added sources and advise whether, taken together with the existing independent coverage, they provide sufficient significant coverage under WP:GNG? The article has also been revised to improve neutrality by removing promotional language and ensuring that all significant claims are supported by reliable references. Any remaining editorial issues can be resolved through further improvement rather than deletion.

Based on the current sourcing, I believe the subject satisfies the requirements of WP:GNG, and I do not believe deletion is warranted. Therefore, I support Keep.

Delete. 1: Solely quotes from the subject, zero secondary independent coverage let alone SIGCOV N. 2: Reports only what the subject said, zero IRS SIGCOV. 3: Reports what the subject said, no secondary analysis at all apart from the editorializing "extremely harsh and abusive language" N. 4: More of the subject speaking, neither independent nor secondary N. 6,8,9,10,11: Namedrops, trivial mentions N. 5 & 7 are Times of India and thus not reliable for BLPs, not that they provide more than namedrops anyway N.

COMMENT: Despite all of his movies being just plaintext in the article, all of them have Wikipedias. Does this implicate NACTOR as potentially a pass? Delete — the sourcing doesn't hold up under WP:GNG: almost everything here points back to the subject's own website and CV, which aren't independent sources by any reading of that guideline. The one newspaper mention, a Sandesh clip, describes itself as featuring him "for his expert insights", which falls well short of the significant independent coverage. The prose has a separate issue: entire sections explaining what arthroscopy is and how robotic surgery works describe the procedures, not the subject, and don't contribute anything toward notability. I propose merging to Violence against Christians in India because there is no persisting WP:SIGCOV. There was no backlash like protests, a law passing or something similar. So, there is no evidence that this passes WP:LASTING either. The coverage is not WP:DIVERSE, except for the BBC, which regularly covers Indian events.

Now, the target page is not completely suitable for such an event, which did not garner lasting coverage. However, a page like List of attacks against Christians in India could be created due to the large number of attacks and coverage by outside sources. However, until that is created, the information in this page should be harbored there. If that does not convince people, then I choose draftification as my second choice. Does the sources treat the incident specifically as an "attack on Christians"?....NO. Strong Keep – The nomination was on broken or unrelated references at the time of nomination. I fixed those issues now. So 2,3,4 are not an issue anymore. As of now, the whole article is supported by multiple independent reliable sources covering subject's career, about a company they started and the dispute with Rakesh Gangwal which was very popular in news at that time. According to me, all of this is not routine coverage, interviews, press releases or sponsored content.

The nomination states there are "no useful sources" and "no significant in-depth coverage". As of now the current sourcing includes multiple independent publications that provide significant coverage, and according to me it satisfies WP:GNG on the present version. Delete: Per nom, concurrence in toto, additionally, all the available low quality sources are within two weeks of eachother, which means not only does it lack appropriate coverage, it also lacks non-routine, and any kind of continued coverage. Although at first glance, the reviews seem to be two different reviews from the same subsidiary of the same newspaper in two different languages (English, Malayalam) by possibly two authors (one of the reviews isn't bylined), the redirect of english.manoramaonline.com to onmanorama.com, shows that they are from different subsidiaries of the same company. Delete WP:NPOL doesn't apply since she's never held elected office, so notability rests entirely on WP:GNG, which isn't met. All the coverage is the routine stuff every party candidate gets, election announcements, result reports and some interview quotes. Keep: A quick WP:BEFORE leads to many reliable sources around the individual. The Hindu , The Economic Times and Al Jazeera , the article already cites several other good sources, an article is pretty much warranted for an administrator who was previously rebuked for informally receiving Prime Minister of India and now holds secretary office in the Ministry of Rural Development (India). I very much disagree with the source assessment table - it makes no real sense, describes national independent consensus RSs as routine when they cover a subject with sigcov in a clearly not-routine way, and for some reason describes Al Jazeera, a RS, as ? reliability. Keep: Articles from reputable sources (,, , ) have covered the institute's achievements and activities, including its accreditation, student placements and other institutional developments. Some of this coverage has also described or included the institute among the top or leading polytechnic institutes in Patna/Bihar. The institute's media gallery also documents additional newspaper and media coverage, which can be traced to the respective publications. Oppose - article technically cites the Mahabharata parenthetically, though we'd now want a non-brackets cite style, and secondary sources. The {{multiple issues}} tag was only just added this month, so maybe that's why article's issues have been unaddressed for years? Keep: Yes, produced many films, covered by independent reliable sources. Although much of the coverage focuses on the films, those sources consistently identify Casablanca Film Factory as the production company. If you think several non notable productions have standalone Wikipedia articles, then you can nominate it for deletion. Having similar article like this is not a reason to argue in an AFD. See WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. Producing many films does not make this company notable. For that it needs to have independent significant coverage from multiple reliable sources. Strong keep - The nomination appears pretty conclusory to me. They just lump the sources together as "plenty of NEWSORGINDIA" without actually showing why the reliable independent sources in the article don't satisfy WP:GNG requirements. Just dropping "NEWSORGINDIA" isn't enough to prove someone isn't notable. In the article, there is good independent coverage from outlets like The Hindu, The Indian Express, India Today, Cinema Express, Hindustan Times. And on the day of release of subject's new movie, just after this nomination, reviews came for Srinivasa Mangapuram and reviews on her acting in Azaad were already there before this, sources of reviews talk about subject's performance. Sources like ANI or basic press releases can be removed or replaced as @Honeybrowneyes has raised concerns about it but that's just normal cleanup and editing procedure, basically pages keep on improving in wikipedia all the time, it doesn't mean the whole article fails GNG. Nominator mentioned WP:NACTOR might apply but doesn't explain why an actress who landed credited major roles in two notable movies, complete with independent review of Azaad (second movie reviews came after nomination), somehow misses the bar. I have removed the NDTV source already, and editors can clean up the weaker or promotional links (if they think any such type sources exist), but the actual independent coverage is more than enough to keep the article. Delete and Draftify The article still needs much better sources to cite.

1. Two of the sources are from Asian News International^[1]^[2] (see: WP:RSPANI) on which there still remains no consensus on WP:ICTFSOURCES.

2. As already mentioned by User:CNMall41, most of the sources are WP:NEWSORGINDIA. Particularly this interview of hers for Femina^[3] appears quite WP:NEWSORGINDIA.

3. Also churnalism. 'Who is Rasha Thadani' by NDTV^[4] is literally a web story. A very low-quality citation, in my humble opinion.

4. This The Hindu citation (ref. no. 9 and 10)^[5] and this The Hindu citation^[6] (ref. no. 15) are duplicate references (see: WP:DUPCITES) and one should be removed and other invoked.

5. Only five citations^[7]^[8]^[9]^[10]^[11] ~~(see note for latter)~~ have bylines, the rest are published by 'entertainment desk' or similar names.

:Note: In this^[11] citation, the article claims it's written by Vinita Kumar but when you go through it, you see her name nowhere but rather 'India Today Entertainment Desk.' At the end, 'published by Anurag Bohra' is mentioned.

I've already removed the NDTV web story, and I have no objection to replacing ANI or other routine or promotional references where stronger sources are available. On the other hand, I don't think those issues, by themselves, demonstrate that the subject fails WP:GNG, if that's the reason why you're leaning towards delete. Delete — the article is heavy with NEWSORGINDIA coverage, and most of it is routine release-cycle material - pieces about her casting and upcoming roles published around each film's promotion window. That kind of coverage tells you a film was being promoted, not that the subject is notable. What's left outside the release coverage is either interviews, where the content is her own words rather than independent analysis, or film reviews that mention her briefly before moving on to the film itself. I propose merging to Suicide in India because this list by itself meets WP:SHORTTEXT, WP:DUP, WP:OVERLAP, and WP:MERGECON. This list existing by itself is not a good page for our readers for various reasons. WP:NOTDB means that random lists should not exist on Wikipedia, because it is not a statistics website. The Suicide in India page is not very developed. However, when it is further developed, it would be useful for the reader of that page to have a break-down by state. Articles on suicide in certain states would also be notable. Thus, when that page is further developed, this page would become redundant. Dude, it's perfectly acceptable to have an arbitary cut-off! Urban agglomerations in India has a cut-off of 100 places for no set reason! List of United States cities by population has a cut-off of 100,000, it's totally discretionary by article and these are all absolutely encyclopedic! We tend not to include whatever threshold the list uses in the title but come on... However unlike your other nominations these do actually overlap so a merge would be appropriate IF you merge the areas and whatever else is not already there. Keep Wikipedia has plenty of statistics and this is fine. It's just a subset that extends List of cities in India by population. NOTSTATS says "Statistics that lack context or explanation can reduce readability and may be confusing" – nothing here is unreadable or confusing. It says "statistics should be placed in tables to enhance readability" – this is a table. There's also no other list of towns in India on Wikipedia so the suggestion to merge to India is baffling. Delete. I see this has been withdrawn, but as I created a source assessment last night, I'd like to add it here as part of the record. It looks like this watercolorist has won a handful of regional watercolor awards and has had reviews in The Times of India , Bombay Times, The Indian Express, Hindustan Times, and the Afternoon Despatch & Courier see (Wikipedia:NEWSORGINDIA). 3 of the articles are "reviews" of the Nehru Centre Art Gallery GROUP exhibit in 2011. There is no particular notability for the Nehru Centre Art Gallery exhibition. The issue seems for be whether multiple mentions in borderline publications adds up to "significant coverage". Same with the regional "awards". Do multiple regional awards adds up to a significant award? In the previous AFD discussions, the quality of the sources is never convincingly presented. That is why the article keeps getting nominated for deletion. This artist does not meet WP:NARTIST. He has not been a substantial part of a significant exhibition, or won significant critical attention, or been represented within the permanent collections of any notable galleries or museums. I would argue that is is time for this article to go. The sum of the sources do not add up to notable. I think mine is a substantial policy-based argument. WP:TOOSOON. Strong keep – clearly notable – As with very strong independent sources the artist is meet clearly notable WP:NARTIST. More than 12 years after the article was created, it remains well sourced and supported by significant independent coverage, many significant shows, multiple significant all India and International Juried art shows awards, satisfying GNG. Based on the available sourcing and the outcomes of the previous two AfD discussions, I do not see a policy-based justification for deletion.

I'm not sure why this article is being nominated for AfD for a third time, as I don't see any new policy-based evidence showing that the subject no longer meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines. However the deletion has been withdrawn.

RedRabbit7, your interpretation of the sources in the table above is inaccurate. The first Times of India is obvious pay-to-play "news" fluff. The Houston Chronicle is not WP:SIGCOV, it's about the show, with only a few sentences about him wining a non-notable award in a juried (not curated) show. The second Times of India source is a Press Release, thus a primary source that does not contribute to notability. The India Express source is an interview thus, another primary source. AstaGuru is a blog, thus not a reliable source. The third Times of India source also appears to be a press release. The gurukahanmuseum source simply represents some pictures of his work, with zero information about it, nor editorial copy; it proves nothing other than he had a show at a non-notable museum; additionally it is a connected, non-independent source. Netherzone I respectfully disagree with the characterization of several of the sources in the table. I believe the sources should be assessed individually and in accordance with WP and WP:NARTIST, rather than dismissing them collectively.

The Times of India coverage should not be characterized as "pay-to-play" or promotional without evidence demonstrating that this was the case. If there is evidence that the article was paid-for content, that would be relevant to its reliability and independence; otherwise, it should be evaluated on the basis of its actual content and provenance.

Regarding the Houston Chronicle article, I agree that its primary subject is the exhibition. The Watercolor Art Society–Houston, founded in 1975, is an established watercolor organization in the USA. Please visit Watercolor Art Society–Houston. In 2013, the subject won first place in its 36th International Exhibition. And I believe that the few sentences about the award, together with the published image of the subject's artwork, provide relevant evidence of its significance. The subject of the article fails every point of WP:NARTIST; 1) he is not considered an important figure in the art world, nor is he widely cited by peers or successors - if he was, there would be chapters about him in art history books and feature articles in art magazines; 2) he has not originated a significant new concept, theory, or technique; 3) he has not created or played a major role in co-creating a significant or well-known work or collective body of work. 4) his work has not (a) become a significant monument, (b) he has not been a substantial part of a significant exhibition, juried shows are pay-to-play they are not considered significant exhibitions, being in shows like the Venice Biennale, or Whitney Biennial or Documenta are significant shows while these little watercolor juried shows are not considered significant by any stretch of the imagination (c) he has not won significant critical attention, (which differs from simple praise) nor (d) his work is not represented within the permanent collections of several notable galleries or museums.

Some friendly advice by the way: it is best practice to strike your second bolded "K**p" !vote. Sometimes closing editor or administrator may "count" !votes by searching for bolded words. The criteria are not cumulative requirements that an artist must satisfy in every respect; satisfying one of the relevant criteria may be sufficient to establish presumed notability, subject to the guideline's conditions. And I believe that's why the core editor understood the facts and the deletion nomination was withdrawn, but you are ignoring these facts and misinterpreting the sources.

I think the subject appears to satisfy the relevant criteria under WP:NARTIST. The sources are either trivial mentions that do not provide in-depth significant coverage and the one potententially good source (Times of India) is indeed a promotional "puff piece" that does not provide in-depth critical analysis of his work. The article about Mandal on Wikipedia and the Times of India, the major news of India do seem to be promotional to me. That there is a major problem about paid editing in India news that affects the notability of subjects, though it is not always applicable. Gujaratfirst.com is certainly not a WP:GNG worthy publication. It is part of a relatively recent media venture (launched around 2021) under a private group and even its own About page is largely self-promotional, highlighting the parent company and its achievements rather than addressing editorial credibility or independence. The platform is also more focused on revenue generation and audience reach.

Comment: I suspect this is the same subject as the first nomination from 2017, which ended in deletion. This iteration probably should have come to AfD much sooner than it did: it has been tagged as a poorly-sourced potential NBIO failure almost since its recreation in November 2023, was briefly tagged for PROD for two minutes in May 2024 before the proposer saw the big red text announcing the previous AfD's existence and self-reverted (but did not follow up with a second AfD or anything else), and based on the logs was only just returned to NPP this week after its initial 2024 review was vacated. No opinion on the article itself, but the signs–and the UPE blocks on both the 2024 reviewer and the article creator–certainly aren't encouraging (and that, combined with a G4 deletion not too long after the 2017 AfD, might mean that the salt shouldn't be taken off the table either). I found those news references as well, but they are not sufficient information to explain the history of Sanskar Bharti. For example, if I were to draw on some of those sources, what claims/sentences in the article can I support with them? Like the sentence At present, there are over 1200 branches of Sanskar Bharati throughout the country of India. is unsourced and none of those article proves that.

This is because the author is often not specializing is any relevant field and the publisher is not reputable. Google Scholar shows 2 results, one of which is a wiki (self-described) and the other is an inaccessible citation. Google News shows some coverage shortly after the event. Then, most of the other coverage is not WP:SIGCOV, except for which is not from a reputable media outlet. Keep The article already has several citations from both local and international outlets, including The Independent' (UK) and Voice of America (US), which challenges the WP:GEOSCOPE concern raised above. Also, a quick search found additional coverage not yet cited, including articles in The Guardian,"Massacre in Kashmir slum renews fear of war"] and BBC News, "Kashmir killings condemned"]. The frequency of Kashmir insurgency attacks doesn't make this one non-notable. And WP:ROUTINE typically refers to scheduled, everyday coverage like weddings or baseball games, not a massacre. I'm inclined to think this is just a news story with no sustained secondary coverage. I tried to find a suitable merge target, but this is just isn't significant to any broader subject. Does the Qasim Nagar neighborhood have significant coverage besides a one-off event? If not, I'll support deleting or redirecting to List of terrorist incidents in Jammu and Kashmir. It probably does, in Kashmiri or another South Asian language, but we would need editors to work on it. I think that if we merge and redirect to your suggested page, then the history will be available to merge into a Qasim Nagar page if it is later created. Adding this: In reference to @Thebiguglyalien's comment on sustained secondary coverage, I'll agree that coverage is limited to 'lists of past attacks', (Times of India), passing mentions or remembrance articles from local outlets. However, the initial coverage was substantial and international (The Independent, VOA, Guardian, BBC, plus Tribune reporting and the above State Dept listing), which I'd argue meets WP:GNG on its own. Secondly, citing DINC makes it seem like this article can exist at all. But on what basis? A couple of contemporary news reports? That isn't for an encyclopedia page per the guidelines that I cite and that you ignore. But even ignoring them, what purpose does the page serve if no scholars analyse it?
