Jamuna Das Choudhury was an industrialist from Sahebganj (now Sahibganj, Jharkhand) during the British era. He was first awarded the title Rai Sahib and later promoted to Rai Bahadur by the British Government in recognition of his contributions to commerce and public service.[citation needed][1] Historical records also mention that his official Rai Sahib and Rai Bahadur title badges have been preserved.[citation needed]
Chodhury was born into a family of Marwari merchants whose ancestral roots lay in Khetri, Rajasthan.[citation needed] As vice-chairman of the Sahibganj Municipality, he devoted himself to the civic development of the town.[citation needed]
In recognition of his distinguished public service and contributions to society,[citation needed] the Government of India conferred upon him the title of Rai Bahadur in 1936[2]
