Warren Pickering (born 1983) is an Australian politician, army veteran, Leader of One Nation Victoria and self-described conspiracy theorist.[3][4]

Biography

[edit]

Pickering grew up on a potato farm in Gippsland region and has worked as a bricklayer, as a worker in the Queensland coal industry, and as a combat engineer for the Australian Defence Forces.[5]

Pickering is president of the Victorian branch of One Nation,[6] he was a candidate in the 2022 Australian Senate election[7] as well as the following election in 2025. He is running in the 2026 Victorian state election in the Division of Pakenham.[8] He is the One Nation candidate for the seat of Pakenham in south-east Melbourne.[9][10]

Political views

[edit]

Pickering has described himself as a conspiracy theorist, who has claimed Australian government policy is controlled by a cabal of foreign “globalists”, and endorsed the idea that the world economy was deliberately crashed to trigger a “great reset”.[11]

He has opposed vaccines since at least 2017 and has regularly made unfounded claims that Australian and Victorian government policies are directed by the United Nations and World Economic Forum and promoted the conspiracy that the 15-minute city urban planning idea is a government plan to limit movement.[12]

Pickering has also promoted the “Great Reset” conspiracy and blamed “globalists” for the passing of legislation relating to climate change and limiting disinformation.[13]

Much of Pickering rhetoric mirrors others in the right-wing populism and “freedom movement.” Josh Roose, a political scientist at Deakin University describes these theories about “globalist control” as “historically… antisemitic in orientation, albeit not presenting in the same way now.”[14]

Pickering is an advocate for protectionism.[15]
