- Q: Why is Kermit Gosnell referred to as a serial killer?
- A: A serial killer is anyone who has killed two or more people in separate events.[1] [2] Kermit Gosnell was charged for more than seven counts of murder and hundreds of abortion-related crimes. He was convicted for the first-degree murder of three infants and the third-degree murder of a woman. The intact bodies of 47 illegally aborted late-term human fetuses/babies were discovered by police stored around Gosnell's clinic.[3] Gosnell is referred to as a serial killer and/or murderer in numerous sources.[4] [5] [6] [7]
- Q: Why does the victim field in the infobox state "4 to possibly hundreds"?
- A: The previous figure of 48+ reflected the 47 sets of fetal and infant remains recovered during the 2010 raid, plus the adult patient who died under Gosnell’s care. However, not all of those remains were legally determined to be homicide victims attributed to Gosnell. Gosnell was formally convicted of four murders, which establishes the confirmed minimum. A Pennsylvania grand jury report also stated that staff described “hundreds” of similar cases, though most could not be prosecuted due to missing or destroyed records. To align with sourcing and Wikipedia’s biography policies, the infobox now reflects the range of documented information using the format: “4 to possibly hundreds.”
