Setting and Characters - Red XIII

When I read the line regarding the character of Red XIII, the words "intelligent quadruped" is alright but has a slight vagueness in the description as such. Any fan of Final Fantasy 7 would question why those outside the game franchise who never played the game would get a good idea of the character's appearance beyond that. Could I recommend a slight adjustment to describe the animal qualities behind the character, so readers who not played the game get a general idea of the character's appearance as per how the game's developers made them? 217.155.9.12 (talk) 15:37, 25 September 2023 (UTC)

Square Enix said Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth "did not meet expectations" and it should be mentioned under "Sales"

Back in 2024, Square Enix president Takashi Kiryu said "In the HD Games sub-segment, we released multiple new titles, including major titles such as Final Fantasy 16 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, but profits unfortunately did not meet our expectations.". This is mentioned on the Final Fantasy 16 wiki under sales, yet Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth doesn't mention this.

Rebirth should have this mentioned under sales as well

Is she dead or alive

While Aerith is seen talking to Cloud at the end of the game, it is widely speculated that she is dead. This reflects the inner turmoil that haunts Cloud in the original game. It isn't referenced under Wikipedia this way. It only mentions that she talks to him during the cutscene before continuing on their journey.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth sales

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's previous 2 million copies sold on the PS5 is an outdated fact and unreliable, as Ampere Analysis was monitoring player count, while Alinea Analytics is monitoring sales. I know people are going to be pointing out that it should still be left up as it reflects the sales on the PS5 and not across both PlayStation and Steam, but it does not paint an accurate picture, as according to Alinea Analytics, the game sold 3.5 million units by the end of January 2025, FFVII Rebirth's pc port, according to Alinea Analytics the game sold 344.4k in its first 7 days on Steam so the PS5 version must have sold over atleast 3 million copies on by Playstation by then, As the PC port came out on 23rd January 2025, It is better to just use the combined sales from both pc and PS5 instead of relying on Peak player counts.

My issue with your edits is the removal of a previously agreed upon, reliable source, Push Square (WikiProject_Video_games/Sources), and replacing it with what is essentially original research drawn from the comparison with a primary source blog. Push Square is not the primary source, as it is just referencing a much older analysis. You can decide to leave it up, but the new source I provided should be added, as it shows the sales of both the PS5 and Steam versions. Gaiaguardian (talk) 09:23, 6 September 2025 (UTC)

The thing is, we need reliable secondary sources that cite Alinea Analytics' estimations before we can use their numbers in the article. WP:Primary says: Do not analyze, evaluate, interpret, or synthesize material found in a primary source yourself; instead, refer to reliable secondary sources that do so.

Alinea Analytics' blog posts are essentially primary sources, since they are publishing their own market estimations without independent editorial oversight. We can't take their raw estimates and then interpret them (for example, by calculating how many copies must have sold on PS5 if Steam sales are X). That would be original research.

The Push Square source is most likely outdated now but since Square hasn't released any official sales numbers, it's safer to stick with what is currently in the article. See WP:V: Even if you are sure something is true, it must have been previously published in a reliable source before you can add it. (WP:NOTTRUTH) quidama _talk 11:41, 6 September 2025 (UTC)

But Push Square's article does not even point to sales but peak player count, which is nowhere an indication of the actual sales; they can easily include the number of people playing the demo, we don't have to separate the PS5 and Steam sales, but Push Square is just rephrasing what Ampere was saying, they had no confirmation if those numbers were legit or that they reflect the actual sales. We can assume that Push Square, as a reliable source, did their due diligence in fact-checking Ampere Analysis' numbers before reporting them. That their number is based on active player numbers doesn't contradict what the Wikipedia article is currently stating since we're giving a lower bound: Rebirth has sold at least 2 million copies since its launch on February 29th as a PS5 exclusive.

It shouldn't be allowed as a source there either since lists also don't allow original research. All other entries on that list article use secondary sources as citations so I assume that one slipped through. quidama _talk 17:18, 9 September 2025 (UTC)

Also, over on the talk page for Assassin's Creed Shadows they're also discussing the notability and credibility of Alinea Analytics as a source (see here). The article currently has a failed verification tag for citing Alinea Analytics, even though it also references a PCGamesN article which is based on their findings—which would meet the minimal threshold I’d expect for inclusion in the FFVII Rebirth article. Silksong and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (the only other two articles citing Alinea) both also cite a secondary source talking about Alinea's findings.

If you think that their firm is notable and reliable enough, it could be worth raising the question at Wikipedia talk:Reliable sources or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Video games/Sources to reach consensus.
