Acai Travel Inc. is an American travel technology company that develops artificial intelligence software used by travel management companies (TMCs), online travel agencies (OTAs), and airlines to automate customer service and back-office tasks. The company was founded in 2023 and is headquartered in New York City.[1][2]

History

[edit]

Acai Travel was founded in 2023 by Riccardo Vittoria, Henry Chen Weinstein, and Pavel Pratyush.[2][3] Vittoria had previously co-founded 30SecondsToFly, a startup whose AI assistant, Claire, allowed corporate travelers to book and manage trips through messaging services including Facebook Messenger, Slack, and SMS.[4] 30SecondsToFly received the General Catalyst Award for Travel Innovation, which carried a US$100,000 prize, at The Phocuswright Conference in 2019,[5] and was acquired by American Express Global Business Travel in October 2020 for an undisclosed sum.[4][6] Vittoria remained at American Express GBT for three years after the acquisition, working on artificial intelligence initiatives, before founding Acai.[7]

In July 2024, the Pennsylvania-based travel management company World Travel Inc. began using Acai's software to automate email routing and responses, telling trade publication The Company Dime that it expected an initial productivity gain of about four percent.[8]

In November 2024, Acai raised US$4 million in seed funding led by Nauta Capital, with participation from DraperB1 and One Travel Ventures.[1] At the time, its customers included Kiwi.com, Lastminute.com, and Globespan Travel Management.[1] The same month, the company announced a partnership with Hopper to provide AI tools supporting Hopper's customer service agents.[9]

In May 2025, Amadeus IT Group made a minority investment in Acai through its corporate venture arm, Amadeus Ventures; terms were not disclosed.[10] The following month, Acai won the Trailblazer Award at the TravelTech Show in London.[11] In November 2025, it received the People's Choice Award in Phocuswright's Launch: Innovation program at The Phocuswright Conference in San Diego.[3]

In May 2026, Lufthansa City Center International, an international network of travel agency franchises, entered a partnership to deploy Acai's software.[12] In June 2026, Acai won the Business Travel Innovation Faceoff at Business Travel Show Europe in London, judged by a panel of corporate travel buyers; the judges praised the technology's handling of travel disruptions while noting they would like it to evolve to trigger disruption management automatically when an event occurs, rather than in response to a traveler's request.[13][14] In August 2026, the corporate travel agency Direct Travel selected Acai's email automation software after a competitive evaluation against rival vendor Oversee.[15] By mid-2026, Acai's customers also included the travel management company ALTOUR and Etraveli Group, the parent company of several European online travel agencies.[7]

Products

[edit]

Acai develops software agents for the post-booking phase of travel, such as itinerary changes, cancellations, and flight disruptions.[3] According to Business Travel News, the company's platform comprises a customer-facing front-office agent, a supervisor system that oversees contact center operations, and a back-office agent that performs tasks within global distribution systems, including processing cancellations, splitting passenger name records, and managing bookings made through multiple sources, subject to corporate and airline policies.[2] The company operates on a software as a service model.[2] In April 2026, Acai integrated predictive flight-disruption technology from Lumo into its platform, enabling it to rank trips by disruption risk and identify rebooking options consistent with airline policies and fare rules.[16] In September 2026, the company launched Acai Desk, a helpdesk product that connects global distribution systems, New Distribution Capability content, and Microsoft 365 in a single interface and routes agency cases by intent and complexity; early adopters included Campbell Travel, the Spanish travel management company Nautalia, and the Australian travel management company Connections Group.[17]
