Article features a link to a YouTube video that no longer works
[edit]Article “Euthanasia Coaster” has a link titled “Urbonas explaining his design”, however when i clicked on it, the YouTube video dosen’t work because it’s no longer around. Therefore i suggest Wayback Machine for this. ~2026-42283-17 (talk) 16:06, 29 July 2026 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, this is a common occurrence. See WP:DEADLINK. Archives are a great option when available, but it's a lot of work tracking them down for every single dead link on all of Wikipedia. If you're able to find one but don't feel confident enough fixing the citation yourself you can drop a note on the talk page for any given article with the archive link, and a passing editor can add it in whenever they have time. Otherwise just a quick mention to alert anyone else who might be willing to look for it themselves is fine too. ChompyTheGogoat (talk) 22:12, 29 July 2026 (UTC)

Explain Project Pages Mechanics
[edit]Also, can someone explain the mechanics of project pages to me? The top of the project page's talk page always includes a list of articles to be improved: how do those get there? And pages that meet qualifications to be included in the project receive a rating and an importance level related to the project: how is that managed and then implemented? pickalittletalkalittle🐤🐤🐤talk a lot pick a little more 13:36, 30 July 2026 (UTC)
- Hello, @Pickalittletalkalittle, and welcome to the Teahouse.
- I'm not an expert on WikiProjects, but as far as I know, there is no mechanism: the project pages get edited by members of the WikiProject as they see fit. ColinFine (talk) 18:45, 30 July 2026 (UTC)
- The article WP:Content assessment talks about how the ratings and importance levels are set. Ratings below "Good" are set by any editor, including the author, and are not hugely significant. ("Good" and above are set by a community process.) The WikiProject may or may not be involved. Importance levels are similar, though the WikiProject editors are more likely to be involved. M kuhner (talk) 18:50, 1 August 2026 (UTC)
- Makes sense. Content assessment is a process I'm familiar with. Really I'm just curious how any article pops ontoa given project page with a level of improtant to the overall wikiproject. I'm not sure where those conversations take place or how the bots aggregate the pages to pop them onto the page. pickalittletalkalittle🐤🐤🐤talk a lot pick a little more 18:27, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
Earning good standing for WP:IPBE?
[edit]I am subject to Internet restrictions in Russia, which hinders my ability to see a large portion of media on Wikipedia (CDN blocks?), and as such, to edit. I usually use paid VPN services (that still get blocked from editing as open proxy), but right now I use DPI bypass services and Tor whenever I need to see restricted content. It is inconvenient to have to switch around to look at media and edit simultaneously, and as such, I would like to request for an IPBE as described in Wikipedia:IP block exemption § Used for anonymous proxy editing. However, I am a (very) new editor, and my good standing (or grounds to believe I'm not a raging maniac I guess) may not exist yet.
Is there a rough estimate of how long my account should exist and how many edits I should make on Wikipedia before I can apply for an IPBE, or can I try right now? — EmoryNB (they/them) talk contribs 15:40, 30 July 2026 (UTC)
- As far as I'm aware, the standard for "trust" is actual trust, and that can't be estimated by looking at any kind of numbers or statistics. (Someone may say they won't trust anyone whose numbers are a certain way - but that is who they won't trust. Who they will trust has no number estimates.)
- Also, as far as I'm aware, there is never permission for Tor, not even for administrators. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 01:17, 31 July 2026 (UTC)
Also, as far as I'm aware, there is never permission for Tor, not even for administrators.
- I don't think that's true: Wikipedia:Advice to users using Tor (this essay also points to IPBEs being grantable for Tor)
- Either way, I read on the matter a little further and I guess I'll wait before at least getting autoconfirmed, and then I can hopefully be granted an IPBE for a short timespan to start off. — EmoryNB (they/them) talk contribs 03:46, 31 July 2026 (UTC)
- I hope it all turns out well. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 04:41, 31 July 2026 (UTC)
- You can try now and what do you have to lose besides a 'no', and you'll still be in the same position. Otherwise, I'd suggest apply after 6 months of editing and more than 500 edits. Mme Maigret (talk) 10:13, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- I forgot to respond here. I did try it and was granted an IPBE for 6 whole months to start off! Could not be happier with the speed of response I got, by the way. If somebody else stuck in Russia is reading this, you can absolutely try applying for an IPBE after editing in good faith! — EmoryNB (they/them) talk contribs 11:24, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
Category question from Emmanbotan
[edit]Why a categorie isnt showing up Hey so i was searching for a category in wikipedia from google called endemic flora of samoa, but its not showing up, even though the page exists, and you fix it? Emmanbotan (talk) 09:31, 31 July 2026 (UTC)
- Emmanbotan, hello and welcome to Teahouse! The category page you are talking about is Category:Endemic flora of Samoa.
- What issue with the category are you seeing? On which page is the issue visible? Please include a wikilink. —andrybak (talk) 09:35, 31 July 2026 (UTC)

Understanding the biographies of dead people
[edit]I have been seeing more and more biographical pages about dead people, who don't have many references, their page are still live, and a lot of information without citation. I did find WP:BIO and a it's sub-section Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons#Recently dead or probably dead, however, I don't see how it address the people who are confirmed dead. I have two questions:
- Is there any policy or essay that address my curiosity?
- What should I do if I come across such pages?
Idr888 (talk) 11:47, 1 August 2026 (UTC)
- Just to make sure - your main point is "biographies with poor references or no references", right? If it is, first, don't just delete them. They might turn out to get deleted in the end, but that shouldn't normally be the first step. And keep in mind that if you find an article that you know you're going to really dislike working on, you always have the option of ignoring it. There's still always lots of work to be done on articles you're more comfortable with.
- The first thing to do when there are no references is to find some. Try to assume (like it says at Wikipedia:Assume good faith) that the people who wrote an article without references were rushed or lazy or sloppy, instead of assuming they were sneaky or lying.
- I just realized I have to leave for a few minutes, but that's the first step at least. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 15:08, 1 August 2026 (UTC)
- @TooManyFingers I understand this, and so far, I haven't nominated nor looked into deletion. Currently, I am fixing tones of suggested pages, regardless of their references. The next step in suggestive edits is to Medium level, and the first one is to find the references. I have tried a few, however, for now I think, I need better understanding of the policies, to move towards the next one. At the same time, when I have observed what I have pointed out above.
- The first step you advised is clear to me. What should be the next step?
- Thank you for your valuable comment. Idr888 (talk) 07:24, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- My limited experience has taught me one first important thing for new editors. I don't learn this stuff quickly, so I'm newer than I seem. :)
- If in doubt, don't change it.
- If you do nothing to an article, it will be no worse than it was yesterday, and you won't have an unnecessary conflict.
- About references and their policies: When you're looking at one of these poorly-referenced articles, what is one of the policy uncertainties that keeps you from acting? TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 15:19, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- @TooManyFingers What I am in doubt is sometimes their WP:GNG, and other times the unreferenced content. Like for example Ganesh Vasudeo Joshi, Leonard Claydon, or Ryūji Miyamoto. There are many others.
- The most weird of them all was/is Hospice Palliative Care Ontario, I believe its very deceptive. The references are in actuality refer back to the page itself and the citation are in "notes" section. The references in the "reference" sections are random sources, that doesn't even mention the subject. Idr888 (talk) 10:06, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- I see. Here are some suggestions:
- Find sources that show that the person is notable. If you can find sources that prove so, then keep the article. Do not nominate for AFD. Leave a talk page message about why you think it is notable with sources, then list out the areas that you think are unsupported. If there is no response in a reasonable timeframe, contact your mentor or be bold and remove all unsourced materials and replace them with high(er) quality ones. Read WP:BACKWARDS of how to do so.
- If the subject is not notable, leave a comment on the talk page listing that you are preparing to delete it. If there is feedback, follow it. Otherwise, nominate for Speedy Delete criterion A7.
- If there is a dispute, keep your cool and either step out of it, de-escalate, or contact your mentor (or me) for help.
- There unfortunately is no easy way to fix these articles. And if in doubt, contact your mentor come to the teahouse for support. Do not do bold changes in that case. I hope my advice was helpful.
- Sincerely,
- 16dvnk (talk) 11:30, 4 August 2026 (UTC)

Up to date Gameplay screenshots?
[edit]Hello, I was wondering if it was reasonable to update a games wikipedia page in which the gameplay screenshot is very out of date and replace it with my own current screenshot?? Walter (talk) 20:12, 1 August 2026 (UTC)
- Copyright on gameplay screenshots doesn't belong to the player. I don't know how all the rules are applied, but very often with copyright it's necessary to intentionally use small low-quality images that just barely give people an idea. All I can say is wait for experts to explain how this is done on Wikipedia, because it's pretty likely to not be obvious. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 20:54, 1 August 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Enkaro. There are two issues to consider when it comes to wanting to do something like this: the copyright status of the screenshot and the encyclopedic need to update the existing screenshot. For some general information on the first, please take a look at c:Commons:Screenshots and Wikipedia:Non-free content. Generally, most gameplay screenshots (assuming you're talking about video games) are under copyright protection unless the entire game itself has been released under a type of license that's free enough for Wikipedia's purposes. If you're not sure about the game you're asking about, you might want to seek input at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Video games. Wikipedia prefers freely licensed content (both text and images) whenever possible in which very few or no restrictions are placed on reuse; however, non-free content can be used when certain conditions are met. As for the encyclopedic need for a new screenshot, you might also want to ask the members of WikiProject Video Games about this; what you might see as being outdated, might actually be historically relevant to game in question or it might be the best example available for the intended use. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:01, 1 August 2026 (UTC)

Request for feedback on Draft - Samvedna Suwalka
[edit]Hello everyone,
I recently submitted Draft:Samvedna Suwalka, but it was declined with the comment that the references are interviews and PR pieces.
Samvedna Suwalka is an Indian actress who has worked in Hindi and Gujarati films, television, web series, and theatre. She has been part of projects like Bey Yaar, Drishyam 2, Fighter, Jee Karda, Gyaarah Gyaarah, and Meri Gudiya. She is also listed in the cast sections of several existing Wikipedia articles for these films and series.
I want to improve the draft before submitting it again. I have tried to find reliable sources, but I'm not sure which ones are acceptable for Wikipedia.
Draft - Draft:Samvedna Suwalka
Could someone please have a look at the draft and let me know:
Which references should I remove?
I would really appreciate any advice. Thank you. Shah198 (talk) 20:20, 1 August 2026 (UTC)
- Hello, and welcome to the
Articles for Creation helpdeskTeahouse. Your query appears to have been generated, in whole or in part, by some kind of AI chatbot or large language model. Using these tools to generate user-to-user communication runs contrary to Wikipedia's culture of collaborative communication. The people here at the helpdesk are volunteering their time to help drafts like yours get published here on Wikipedia, and we all greatly appreciate if you extend us the effort and courtesy of engaging with us personally rather than through a proxy. Not only that, but if you got here by asking that AI tool why your draft was rejected or to help you in formatting a question, I can assure you it does not know more about this process than you do. If you aren't sure why your draft was declined or rejected, please follow these steps;
- Make sure you've read the decline notice(s) (highlighted in red at the top of your draft) along with any comments left below by the reviewer(s).
- If any of the content in the decline notice is unclear, make sure to click all of the links in the decline notice and read the pages they take you to.
- If any of the content in the additional comments is unclear, you should ask for clarification from the reviewer who left the comment directly on their talk page.
- If after doing all of the above, you still have additional questions, then the Articles for Creation help desk is the place for it; please feel free to ask us any more specific questions you have, just please do so without help from any AI or LLM. Athanelar (talk) 20:37, 1 August 2026 (UTC)

- The main concern here is whether she is notable. For that purpose, here are some things that are not helpful:
- being listed
- being mentioned
- being interviewed
- proof of working
- This is because every actor has those - such things are merely part of the film business and do not make anyone notable. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 20:41, 1 August 2026 (UTC)
- Shah198, your draft has four references. The first and third are to breezy, gossip type sites that are reporting on rumored upcoming film roles. The second reference is to an acting program that she attended. The fourth is to a clickbait site that is almost impenetrable. What is required are references to indisputably reliable sources that are completely independent of the actress and provide significant, in depth coverage of her. Please read Paid news in India for some insight into unethical practices, especially regarding up-and-coming entertainment industry figures. Cullen328 (talk) 03:25, 2 August 2026 (UTC)

Articles created from redirects after I had worked on the drafts
[edit]On two different redirects where I had done work on the drafts with prior TAs (Emotional Junglist and Terrified), other editors ignored the automatic warnings not to create the article from the redirect and did it anyway. On the Emotional Junglist article, it looks like a pretty clear-cut mistake, even if it is frustrating. On the Terrified article, it looks like the editor who did it knew what they were doing because they took the exact (unconventional) formatting for the track listing credits. ~2026-41404-95 (talk) 03:53, 2 August 2026 (UTC)
- @~2026-41404-95: I'm not sure which warning you refer to but autoconfirmed users can both convert a redirect to an article and create articles directly without having a redirect first. This is normal. If you work slowly on a draft about a current event like a recently released album then there is a big risk somebody will create an article during your work. If you submit the draft quickly then it may wait a long time for a review and somebody else may still create an article in the meantime. If you don't want to be scooped then I suggest to avoid current events or create an account and work to become autoconfirmed. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:52, 2 August 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, I did not get a warning that a draft already existed when I started the Emotional Junglist article from the redirect. I've only seen such warnings when starting an article in mainspace from scratch, but it would be a helpful feature to display on redirect pages. I still should've checked draftspace beforehand, so that's my bad. It would make sense to submit a WP:HISTMERGE request for Terrified as it looks pretty clearly copied from the draft. मल्ल (talk) 14:33, 2 August 2026 (UTC)
- Hey man, no worries. I've seen other people make this mistake. I took this to Teahouse (which I've never posted to before) instead of AN/I because I just wanted some advice on what the best course of action is from here, rather than being like "PUNISH THEM" (although I'm a little bit annoyed at the copying with the Fakemink article, which wasn't you). If I go to Armor Wars (film) for example (just picked randomly from the draft suggestions when typing "Draft:" into the search bar) and try to edit it in Visual Editor, I get a little red box pop up in the top right telling me that there's a draft. If I switch to source editor, it's a red banner above the editing window. I was under the impression that this is automatic whenever there's a draft with the same title as a redirect, although I may be mistaken about that. ~2026-41404-95 (talk) 14:42, 2 August 2026 (UTC)
- Huh looking at your example I do see that notice, though it is a bit inconspicuous. I guess I just missed it and need to be more careful in the future, sorry about that. मल्ल (talk) 15:37, 2 August 2026 (UTC)

- "HAF" turns out to stand for "Hellenic Air Force". Or perhaps "Hellanic Air Force" (yes, this also appears). Something that you can do for yourself: Enable a spelling check for English. (As I write or paste "Hellanic", Firefox gives it a wiggly red underline, which is Firefox's way of commenting "Are you sure?") -- Hoary (talk)WWU 👍︎ 06:27, 2 August 2026 (UTC)
- @4-RAZOR 01 What do you think is missing from the article? Or, why do you think it's not good enough yet?
- Often when people ask for help to expand an article, they basically mean that the topic is important to them but they can't find good sources. Unfortunately, that can mean it would be better to have no article.
- The Greek air display team will certainly be best known in Greece, and I guess the team's main purpose is to impress the public at air shows - not exactly a military mission. I'd suggest that you probably don't need military aviation experts, and that it might help much more to find people who read Greek. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 15:03, 2 August 2026 (UTC)

How do people pace themselves here?
- By stopping more often. That may sound too obvious or like a joke answer, but it isn't intended like that. Any solution that's more sophisticated is fine if it works for you, but in this case "more sophisticated" just means other more creative methods for stopping. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 20:25, 2 August 2026 (UTC)
- There's a story about a boy tossing starfish back into the ocean after they'd been stranded on the shore by low tide. Someone told him he couldn’t save most of the starfish so his work was hopeless, but the boy said what he did was important to the ones he did save. There may be a million Wikipedia articles in need of improvement, but I cant "save" them all, so I’m content to help a few. I'll start thinking about a person, place, or thing of interest to me, and I check to see if Wikipedia has an article on the topic. Sometimes I'll find just a stub article, or one that was tagged 12 years ago as needing more citations, and I’ll start working on how to improve the article. (FYI - I never bother with the "big" articles that hordes of people want to edit, I stick with the ones that few people have ever worked on.) Sometimes my work is done in an hour, and sometimes I collect more information, but then take 6 months before going back to improve the article. I'm a volunteer Wikipedia editor, with many other responsibilities in my life, and no one is going to kick me off this site for not doing more. I strive to do good work on this online encyclopedia, and I'm pleased with what I’ve done to help others with the same interests as myself who'll one day come to the articles I've improved, but I don't get upset about the articles that don't hold my interest enough to do the hard work of editing them. I remember the articles I've improved, and am proud of my work. Karenthewriter (talk) 00:37, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- In line with what @Karenthewriter mentioned above, I’ve found it really helps to answer two questions (and probably write down the answers, though I haven’t gotten that far!).
- One is what else in “real life” do I need to balance with Wikipedia … the other is what and where do I feel I can best contribute in Wikipedia while leaving some room to discover and develop new Wiki interests and abilities. Augnablik (talk) 04:37, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- Those are good questions. It's likely that asking yourself any simple but thought-provoking questions about the situation would also help. Whichever are good questions for you, use them. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 05:15, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
L'Estaque, disambiguation
[edit]L'Estaque is a neighborhood in Marseille, but there are also some paintings: Houses at l'Estaque ; The Viaduct at L'Estaque ; L'Estaque, Melting Snow ; Seascape. L'Estaque ; Trees in L'Estaque. Is it necessary to create a disambiguation page for L'Estaque at L'Estaque (disambiguation)? ~2026-42680-57 (talk) 16:42, 2 August 2026 (UTC)
- @~2026-42680-57 My opinion is "no". If we did, it would be logical to create a similar DAB page for "London", where we have 8,405 articles (including redirects) with that word in the title. A DAB page for them all is clearly not sensible. For more, see Wikipedia:Disambiguation and note that the Wikipedia default search bar does a pretty good job already in the L'Estaque case. Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:57, 2 August 2026 (UTC)
- No, because none of those names is likely to be confused with plain, unadorned "L'Estaque". But I wonder if "Category:Marseille in art" or similar might be worthwhile: Category:Cityscape paintings shows that Category:Brussels in art is a singleton, and that Category:Paintings of Paris and Category:Paintings of Venice are the only two of that pattern. And if "Category:Marseille in art" would be worthwhile, then whether it would fit within Category:Works set in Marseille. Incidentally, although there's no "Category:Paintings of London", there do exist Category:Paintings of London by Claude Monet ... and Category:London in art (so Category:Brussels in art turns out not to be a singleton after all). Perhaps this primarily shows that impulsive category creation is bad practice: exploration around a tentatively proposed category, and hard thinking, are needed. -- Hoary (talk)WWU 👍︎ 23:09, 2 August 2026 (UTC)

Google translation
[edit]- How does it work if a Wikipedia entry is in another language, but not my language. Can I post a google translation of it?
Because of some recent videos in social media, about the 1972 Japanese movie, Hairpin Circus, there's been some curiosity about this movie, including myself. I couldn't find the article in English, but I did find it in Japanese. Google translate appears to have done a good job of rendering the page in English. Could I post that, or how would I go about getting this movie posted in the English language? The Japanese article is: https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%83%98%E3%82%A2%E3%83%94%E3%83%B3%E3%83%BB%E3%82%B5%E3%83%BC%E3%82%AB%E3%82%B9 Pancakeandcows (talk) 00:01, 3 August 2026 (UTC)

- There is also the option of creating an interlanguage link ... hairpin circus. This lets you have a link to the page in the foreign language, then the user can select the option to translate to English. Of course, no machine translation is perfect, but it means that you always get a translation of the current (foreign language) page. Fabrickator (talk) 00:56, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- In my opinion, a big advantage of this option is that the reader knows exactly what they're getting (i.e. a machine translation). TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 02:02, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks everyone! Fabrickator, does doing what you suggest, and putting in a language translation request, something that would work? It looks like the current Japanese-English translators, haven't been active since last year. Because of that I'm thinking just leave it as a request. Pancakeandcows (talk) 03:52, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- Pancakeandcows, I can't quite make sense of what follows your "Thanks everyone!", and wonder if you might have misunderstood interlanguage links. You'd use Hairpin Circus (achieved by
''{{Ill|Hairpin Circus|ja|ヘアピン・サーカス}}'') instead of (currently red) Hairpin Circus for mentions of the movie within other articles. Indeed, I've started this for you. An English-language article, Hairpin Circus, may still be created; if this does happen, Cewbot will soon convert "interlanguage links" to the Japanese-language article into regular links to the English-language article. -- Hoary (talk)WWU 👍︎ 06:55, 3 August 2026 (UTC) - If you do what Fabrickator suggested, all it does is let your readers click to the Japanese Wikipedia article (exactly as Japanese people see it). Then if the reader wants to use a machine translator on it, they can. (Or if they understand Japanese, they just read it.) It saves you from getting blamed for translation mistakes. :) TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 14:54, 3 August 2026 (UTC)

- You not finding any information is probably a major reason why Wikipedia should not have an article on it. Wikipedia's job is to collect the good material that's already out there. We intentionally stay behind the crowd, never ahead. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 04:49, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- You might start by buying and reading this book (NB: Amazon advert). It is also known as Sanse, so searching on that name may find more results.
- I think sources probably do exist that would make this subject Notable, as Wikipedia requires for an article (there are 9 existing articles on other regional variants of Voodoo, linked in that article), but many sources might not be available online, given the subject's nature (as a Wiccan, I encounter such difficulties myself).
- It would help if you could enquire (in person if possible) at a good Public Library, which may have some relevant books, and which should be able to identify, and borrow for you via Interlibrary loan, any printed books other libraries might have on the subject.
- Any article on Wikipedia is (or is supposed to be) only a summary of Reliable sources, and evidently no-one has so far volunteered to create one, so right now you are the most obvious candidate to, eventually, do so. - @A1Gaming22: Welcome to The Teahouse. As the template page says, you have to substitute the template like so:
{{subst:Happy Birthday 2}}. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 06:59, 3 August 2026 (UTC) - The documentation for this template says it must always be "substituted" and suggests you type:
- {{subst:Happy Birthday 2}}
- When I tried that, it worked correctly. When I left out "subst:" I got the behavior you describe. You can read about this at WP:Substitution but I confess, I did not know what would happen until I tried it. In any case, that's how you can fix your birthday message.
- It may be useful to know that any time you have issues with a template, you can search for it by putting "Template:" in front of it in the search bar. I found this one by searching "Template:Happy Birthday 2". M kuhner (talk) 06:59, 3 August 2026 (UTC)

- @ToppatPotrick It's not vandals that are the big problem. It's that Fandom Wiki doesn't have paid permanent fact-checking staff with ultimate control over what gets put up, and who cut out every part that can't be proved before the public is allowed to read. Can I use a book reference if I haven't seen the book
[edit]When searching for a citation, I have come across instances where a number of web sources ultimately refer to a particular book with full details, page no. etc. If I have no way of seeing the book myself, I am guessing that I cannot or should not use that reference. For example, searching for a citation for the Article 'St Ives, Cornwall', I found this https://fredericksprattcollection.wordpress.com/about/ .This is a blog so apparently unsuitable as a citation, but in that web page, reference 2 refers to a book. The same book reference is used as citation 3 in the Wikipedia article on Frederick Spratt, artist. Can I use that book reference? Jaarn9 (talk) 14:45, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- If you cite a source it is assumed that you have personally verified what's in the source. If you haven't read the book yourself you should not cite it. MrOllie (talk) 14:47, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- Going beyond your basic question: in both cases (which look oddly similar by the way) that item printed by UIUC in 1969 doesn't have an author credit. Considering the lack of author along with the subject matter, it's likely not so much a book as an exhibition catalogue (or whatever those are properly called), and that makes me think if it's available anywhere, it would be some archive in the library (or the art department) of that university. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 15:49, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks. I hadn't noticed the lack of authors. While you're here, as I'm fairly new to editing, I quite often come across citations to a web address that, when I click on it, no longer seem to exist. - Thanks v much Jaarn9 (talk) 17:49, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- Jaarn9, back to the original question. It is not necessary to "see" the physical book if enough of the book is available online that you can confidently and accurately verify the assertion being made in the article. Publishers get to decide how much of a book is available through a Google Books search, for example. If several pages are available, then there may be information useful to a Wikipedia article there. It is your responsibility to verify the reliability of any source that you cite. Start by looking at the backgound of the author and the publisher. For an academic topic, a well-reviewed book written by a respected college professor and published by a university press is the sort of thing that is ideal. Guidance on Recreating an Article About Mr. Rafi Butt
[edit]Hello everyone, I am seeking guidance before beginning work on a potential article about Mr. Rafi Butt, a historical Pakistani businessman. To my knowledge, an article about him previously existed but is no longer available. Before investing time in researching and drafting a new article, I would like to better understand Wikipedia's expectations regarding recreation and sourcing. Over time, I have identified multiple independent secondary sources, including newspaper features and other published material that discuss Mr. Rafi Butt, his career, and his historical significance. These sources were published independently and are not company publications or self-published material. My questions are: If an article about a historical figure was previously deleted or no longer exists, under what circumstances is it appropriate to create a new article? If several new independent secondary sources have been published since the previous article (or since any previous discussions about the subject), can those new sources justify creating a fresh article? When evaluating notability, is the focus primarily on the quality and depth of coverage provided by independent reliable secondary sources, rather than simply the number of sources? Is there any recommended minimum level of significant coverage that editors generally look for before submitting an article through Articles for Creation (AfC)? Before I begin drafting, would it be advisable to ask for feedback on the available sources to determine whether they are likely to satisfy the General Notability Guideline (WP)? I am not asking for a determination that the subject is notable at this stage. Rather, I would appreciate guidance on how experienced editors assess whether newly available independent secondary sources are sufficient to justify creating or recreating an article. - Well, regarding the Draft:Imtiaz Rafi Butt, i want to bring into your notice that i have two more more sources other than that. And moreover, i want to clarify that i am talking about his father Mr Rafi Butt who died in 1948. I was seeking guidance to create aritcle on him. Hassnain Raza786 (talk) 10:28, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- One = singular.
- Two or more = multiple.
- See wikt:multiple#Determiner. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 12:08, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Andy,
- I would appreciate some guidance before I invest significant time in researching and drafting a potential article about Rafi Butt, a historical Pakistani businessman and industrialist.
- At this stage, I am not asking whether the subject is notable, nor am I asking anyone to review a draft, as I have not written one yet. My objective is to understand how experienced Wikipedia editors would evaluate the different categories of sources that are currently available so that I can determine whether it is worthwhile proceeding.
- From my research, I have identified several different types of material, and I am uncertain how each would be viewed under Wikipedia's sourcing policies.
- 1. Independent newspaper coverage
- There are numerous newspaper articles about Rafi Butt published by independent newspapers over several decades. Some of these articles remain available online, while many older ones survive only as scanned copies because the original newspapers are no longer digitally accessible.
- Would these older newspaper articles still be considered acceptable reliable secondary sources if the scans clearly identify the original newspaper, publication date, and article?
- 2. Historical book written by an academic historian
- One of the principal works on Rafi Butt is At Quaid's Service: A Journey Towards Discovery, written by Professor Syed Razi Wasti, a respected historian whose research focuses on the Pakistan Movement and South Asian history.
- The book contains historical analysis, references, documentary evidence, correspondence, and archival material. However, it was published by the Jinnah Rafi Foundation, an organization established in memory of Rafi Butt.
- In this situation, how would Wikipedia editors generally assess such a book?
- Would the fact that the publisher is connected to the subject automatically make the book unsuitable as a secondary source, or would greater weight be given to the independence, academic reputation, and research methodology of the author?
- 3. Historical documents reproduced by the Foundation
- The Foundation has also preserved many historical materials, including:
- original newspaper clippings,
- correspondence,
- official documents,
- and photographs.
- Many of these documents are no longer available elsewhere online.
- If these are reproductions of independently published historical material, how are they generally viewed? Can they be used to verify historical facts, or are they treated simply as primary sources regardless of where they are reproduced?
- 4. Correspondence and acknowledgements from world leaders
- Among the archived material are letters or acknowledgements from several internationally recognised figures, including leaders such as Margaret Thatcher, Nelson Mandela, Henry Kissinger, Bill Clinton, and others, together with archival footage of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto acknowledging Rafi Butt's contributions.
- I understand that such material would generally be considered primary sources and therefore would not establish notability by itself.
- However, can these documents still be cited to verify specific historical facts if their authenticity is not disputed, or would editors generally avoid using them altogether because they are preserved by an organisation connected to the subject?
- Overall question
- My main objective is to understand how experienced editors distinguish between:
- independent secondary sources that establish notability,
- reliable historical works published by organisations connected to a subject,
- archived reproductions of older independent publications, and primary historical documents.
- Before I spend considerable time preparing a draft, I would like to better understand how these different categories of material are likely to be evaluated under Wikipedia's sourcing policies.
- I appreciate any guidance or suggestions that experienced editors may be willing to share.
- Thank you. Hassnain Raza786 (talk) 14:01, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Normally, when an article existed and then got deleted, it's because it had flaws that were impossible to fix.
- When that article was about a person, "not a notable person" is almost certain to be one of the flaws. If Mr. Butt is not notable, then seriously the only possibility is to give up and forget about it.
- If he had been notable, Wikipedia would have tried hard to keep the article. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 15:29, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- It depends on why it was deleted… in this case, it looks like it was draftified, so it’s possible the problem was something like LLM use or lack of citations where there could plausibly be an article, just not in the form it was in when it was turned into a draft. If there had been a deletion discussion, that would more likely be notability. SomeoneDreaming (talk) 22:41, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- Sorry I got that wrong. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 22:47, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- It's fine no problem. I was actually seeking guidance on Mr Rafi Butt who is a father of Imtiaz Rafi Butt. Mr Rafi butt died in 1948 and had numerous independent sources covering him. Hassnain Raza786 (talk) 10:30, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- As you have a disclosed conflict of interest with the subject's son, I suggest you create a draft at Draft:Rafi Butt and then submit it through the Articles for Creation process. I can't see any previous drafts under that name. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 10:41, 4 August 2026 (UTC)

Quotes in awards
[edit]Greetings. I was bimbling along doing a few tone edits when I was sent to Canadian Brass. Two questions:
- I've noticed a few times that there are a lot of acceptance quotes around awards (and similar, such as "final words" quotes around death or illness). Is there a guide for when it is appropriate (or not) to include such a quote?
- Secondly the award in this case is to a member, not the group - should it be included at all?
-- WolfOnABus (talk) 16:05, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- Hi WolfOnABus
- There are a couple policies that are somewhat relevant such as:
- WP:INDISCRIMINATE and WP:NPS
- This essentially states that they must be relevant and not dominate the article
- for a relevant essay that goes into a little more depth and reflects the consensus, there is also WP:QUOTE, particularly the sectionWP:QUOTEUSE
- there may be other, more specific policies that I'm not aware of however these may still benefit you to read
- in short, from my experience and to the best of my understanding, a quote should be of potential interest to the reader, generally relate to the subject of the article, the subject of the section in which it is placed and also be of a length that is well suited to the article, quotes should also be used sparingly and in a way that does not dominate the article or disrupt the flow of information
- for that specific example, I personally, would be more than okay with it even though it isn't as directly related to the band itself as much so as a member of it because it is still within the article's scope, is of a reasonable length and may be of interest to the reader
- also, you may know this already but the newcomer homepage suggested edits for tone do come up with quotations. this is because that system is automated and many quotations are not of an encyclopaedic tone which is okay because they're quotes; you can usually skip right past these as the tone of a quotation is only really a concern if the quotes are being used to place undue weight on a certain point of view (although quotes do not have to contain a neutral point of view providing that it's use is appropriate and the article is otherwise written neutrally)
- I hope this helps and welcome again to Wikipedia
- kind regards and happy editing ~ TiredKitty (talk) 10:19, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you kindly.
- I've generally skipped past quotes as you say, although I think in the situation above I blockquoted since it was spread over four lines. I do wonder how many quotes are being altered by people who don't know better since they're, as you say, given to people by machine learning. WolfOnABus (talk) 15:43, 4 August 2026 (UTC)

Problems with a temp user - where to/should I report?
[edit]Hi,
Recently I've been noticing a temp user (not sure if I'm allowed to mention their name here, if someone tells me I can, I gladly will) who mostly edits music and media related articles. They use poor grammar (including common quirks like "abut" instead of "about), nearly always use lowercase, and add niche, hyperspecific information into articles. Apparently they have 2-5 different temp accounts. The temp account I saw was already temporarily blocked before. Should I take this to WP:ANI or WP:AN? Which one of them? Moonliner72 (talk) 22:30, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- Have you or anyone else tried communicating with them on their talk page? This seems like more of a case of good faith mistakes than vandalism, so I would start there. If you’re unable to talk to them, I would then go to ANI. You could also try reaching out to the admin who blocked them the first time. SomeoneDreaming (talk) 23:00, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- I'll reach out to the admin. Also, the temp account has expired, and the user's edits are not always attempting to constructive, as seen with this one. Moonliner72 (talk) 20:49, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Also, they sometimes got into small edit wars over their content. Moonliner72 (talk) 20:52, 4 August 2026 (UTC)

- On the topic of them potentially misusing multiple accounts, if you have enough evidence, you can submit a report at WP:SPI. Otherwise, if you assume their mistakes are in good faith, try steering them in the right direction! You can always refer them to the teahouse for help. asoundd 01:21, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
My man-written pages kept being tagged as AI generated
[edit]After being called out on about one of my pages written with the assistance of AI a few months ago, I learnt that it's totally unacceptable to edit Wikipedia with any AI assistance and therefore, the AI written page has been removed and I have stopped using this method while turning to editing and writing manually since then. Yet, a specific ignorant and arrogant user kept calling out my man written and edited pages as AI generated without being able to provide proof or clarify his suspicions for me to further improve my writings. What can I do about it? JustAnotherCarDesigner (talk) 01:47, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Hello, JustAnotherCarDesigner. The discussion on your user talk page indicates that the other editor had been looking at some of your work going back a few months ago, when you concede that you were using AI inappropriately. If they commented on articles where you did not use AI, then simply explain politely that you didn't, and move on. That discussion indicates that you responded to this criticism by accusing the other editor of also creating AI generated content. Unless you have convincing evidence, this can be seen as retaliatory. A behavioral policy on Wikipedia is to Assume good faith of your fellow editors. It is a really bad idea for you to accuse that editor of being "ignorant and arrogant". Please reconsider that approach, and try your best to collaborate toward consensus instead of engaging in personal attacks. Cullen328 (talk) 05:19, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- In the beginning, I did exactly just that, simply explained that I didn't, yet they just kept adding the tag back without further explanation. The key action is "adding the tag without and proof or explanation". If that's vandalism then it should work both ways for both of us. Anyways, we have communicated on my talk page and should be resolved for now. JustAnotherCarDesigner (talk) 06:46, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- JustAnotherCarDesigner, please be aware that vandalism has a very specific meaning on Wikipedia. It means a conscious and deliberate attempt to damage the encyclopedia. Adding an AI tag in good faith is not vandalism. And the tag does not say that the article is definitely AI created. It says
. . . may incorporate text from a large language model, which is prohibited in Wikipedia articles. It may include hallucinated information . . .
So, you are repeatedly accusing another editor of vandalism in your edit summaries. This is inappropriate and a form of disruptive editing. Please stop. Cullen328 (talk) 07:14, 4 August 2026 (UTC)

- Hello @JustAnotherCarDesigner, you created Foton Xiangling Q in article space on 28 June, but I spotted it as an AI-generated article and it was subsequently speedily deleted as such. You've since confirmed that this was AI-generated, and said that you have since stopped using AI for Wikipedia. Then a different user recreated that article, but they also used AI to generate it. That page was draftified and is now Draft:Foton Xiangling Q, but today you copypasted it back into article space as Foton Xiangling Q (trimming a few paragraphs). That means that you have now created another AI-generated article, even though you may not have been the person that generated it. The draft is tagged as
{{AI-generated}}, so you should have realised that this was AI-generated text. You should also know that you aren't supposed to move pages by copypasting the contents, because that doesn't preserve the editing history and breaks attribution. - Since the page now exists both in draft space and in article space, it is not possible to draftify the article space copy. Unless you request a WP:U1 deletion, it would need to be sent to AfD. All of this being said, I still want to thank you for giving attention to this subject area. The English Wikipedia does lack coverage of non-western subjects (cars included), and you have also uploaded many high-quality images of these cars to Commons. All of that is commendable and does deserve respect, but WP:NOLLM is a guideline and it is important to keep LLM-generated content out of the project. I don't have a problem with your sourcing (I just can't read most of them myself), but I just don't want you to add LLM-generated text to the encyclopaedia, regardless of if you have copied it from someone else or generated it yourself. I hope that you understand, and that we can work together to improve the encyclopaedia. ‑‑gurkubondinn 10:55, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- This isn't really that relevant to the question, but please make sure to assume good faith. By saying the user is ignorant and arrogant, you are assuming bad faith. Moonliner72 (talk) 20:36, 4 August 2026 (UTC)

How to cite a date and location of death on a biography page
[edit]The subject of this biography article passed away in February 2000 in a small town in California. The journals that likely printed the obituary at the time are not available online. I can find the social security death record in Ancestry.com, but that's not a good source to cite, correct? Any suggestions? Thank you. Lmfelton (talk) 07:27, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Hello and welcome. Sources do not need to be online, as long as you can provide sufficient information for someone to theoretically locate the source, such as publisher, title, author, publication date, page numbers, etc. Referencing for beginners should have information on this. 331dot (talk) 07:31, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you for the information! Unfortunately I'm not certain which if any of the local papers printed an obituary at the time, as none of them are searchable online. Ancestry.com definitely confirms the death information, citing their source as "U.S., Social Security Applications and Claims Index, 1936-2007." What can I do in this situation? Do I need to remove the line stating the date and location of death? Thank you. Lmfelton (talk) 05:31, 5 August 2026 (UTC)

Reviewed article was deleted
[edit]- So....my reviewed article was deleted and i have no idea why a person decided to link the thing in the first place
A month ago or 2, I spotted a LDPR article, at first everything was linked until I found the Youth Organization didnt have an Article, so I decided to make one for it, searched the sources, the only sources I could find are from the official LDPR website, because The Youth Organization dosent exist anywhere except Russia but I carried on anyways, I finished the article because it was not that hard and I waited for 1 month just to get a article deletion just because the only sources I could find was from the LDPR website, even State Duma dosent even talk about it, so the person who made the article LDPR, please remove the Link from the Youth Organization because it has no other link than its own website, even only the website has the logo so i will need more source and some more help because this is just unacceptable. Apicturegiver444 (talk) 08:26, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Apicturegiver444, I see no evidence that an article "Youth Organization of LDPR" has ever existed. Never having existed, it has never been deleted. You created Draft:Youth Organization of LDPR on 12 July (less than one month ago). It has not been deleted; instead, Accesscrawl declined it. In order for it to be accepted, you will indeed need additional, reliable, independent, secondary, in-depth sources. You talk of "the person who made the article LDPR", but the history of the article "Liberal Democratic Party of Russia" shows that a number of people made it. I'm not sure which link you want removed or why you want it removed; but if there is a good reason for removing it, then why not remove it yourself? -- Hoary (talk)WWU 👍︎ 09:06, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Presumably they want the redlink removed since they have found that the topic is not notable. -- Maddy from Celeste (WAVEDASH) 09:09, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- thanks for the advice,i meant the person who added the youth linked not the person that created the article,i had no idea who did it so i just labelled it like that. Apicturegiver444 (talk) 10:23, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- @Apicturegiver444: Wikipedia:Red link says: "Remove red links only if you are certain that Wikipedia should not have an article on that subject." A declined draft doesn't necessarily mean there should not be an article. Maybe somebody else could find sources. The infobox in Liberal Democratic Party of Russia says Youth Organization of LDPR. It links the Russian article on [ru]" but uses code which will automatically remove the Russian link if an English article is created. That may be OK. The Russian article has 10 sources. I don't know Russian and haven't tried to determine whether they would help with Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). PrimeHunter (talk) 11:07, 4 August 2026 (UTC)

- You have already been given all relevant information on your talk-page. Just follow the advice, starting with making the WP:PAID declaration on your userpage. Lectonar (talk) 10:28, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Hello, @Dineshje.
- You are making the common, but wrong, assumption that Wikipedia's needs are the same as your needs.
- What the encyclopaedia article DFCC Bank needs, far more importantly and urgently than being brought up to date, is to cite and be based on secondary sources.
- Wikipedia has little interest in what the subject of an article says or wants to say about themselves, or what their associates say about them. Wikipedia is almost exclusively interested in what people who have no connection with the subject, and who have not been prompted or fed information on behalf of the subject, have chosen to publish about the subject in reliable sources. If enough material is cited from independent sources to establish notability, a limited amount of uncontroversial factual information may be added from non-independent sources.
- I understand that you want your company to be represented with up to date information. But that Wikipedia article is not part of your company's representation, it is an article about your company, and is not controlled by you.
- As you have been told, you are welcome to make suggestions, once you have made the mandatory declaration of your status as a paid editor. But Wikipedia's priorities are not the same as your priorities. ColinFine (talk) 11:48, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
Is it a deceptive way of creating an article?
[edit]I have come across a very weird page via tone correction suggestion: Hospice Palliative Care Ontario, although, the tone was mistakenly flagged. I believe the page is very deceptively built. The references, refer back to the page itself and the citation are in "notes" section. The references in the "reference" sections are random sources, that doesn't even mention the subject. Am I missing something?
Idr888 (talk) 11:50, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, Idr888
- the links appear to be fine to me. my guess is that you are attempting to open the links with the page in "edit" mode (often, on suggested edits, it will automatically open on edit mode)
- when in this mode, it does just link back to the page itself when opened in a new tap - if I need to verify citations while keeping edit mode open, I will usually have it open in "read" mode in another tab so I can quickly switch between them
- I hope this helps
- happy editing and kind regards, ~ TiredKitty (talk) 12:22, 4 August 2026 (UTC) ~ TiredKitty (talk) 12:22, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- oh wait, yes, apologies
- the notes appear to have been added as wikipedia-style in-place citation markers added to update it from a bibliography
- some articles will have this
- for example, [4] will correspond with an author, year and sometimes page number named in the "notes" section; you can then look for the citation matching this in the "references" section
- I hope this helps ~ TiredKitty (talk) 12:26, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Idr888. I was only able to access three of the five sources, but those three did seem to mention the subject of the article by name; whether those mentions are sufficient to establish the subject's Wikipedia notability per WP:NORG is perhaps a bit questionable, but they don't appear to be "random" sources. As for the
references referring back to the page itself
, I'm not sure what you mean by that, but maybe it has to do with the short citation style being used for the article. This style looks a bit odd when you're seeing it for the first time perhaps, but it's an acceptable style for Wikipedia. The entries in the "Notes" section actually link back to the part of the article the citation is supposed to support and also link to the fully formatted citation for the source being cited listed in the "References" section. -- Marchjuly (talk) 12:37, 4 August 2026 (UTC)- @Marchjuly I observed the same exact thing! 16dvnk (talk) 13:02, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
LLM use for sourcing
[edit]I have occasionally used LLMs to review the source-text integrity of articles, and also to find sources for unsourced paragraphs in articles.
In all of these cases, (1) the text that I wrote in the article or the talk page was 100% written by me, and (2) I manually verified the findings of the LLM that I decided to include. In short, I used the LLM for discovering potential issues / sources, and proceeded from there manually, verifying the content by myself. In my view, this was helpful in improving the sourcing of the articles.
Is this an acceptable use? I am asking particularly because a recent comment of me on the FAC page of an article was reverted by an editor: see the history of this FAC page. Perhaps the sentence saying "The LLM disputes this" was unnecessary, and I should have simply stated the comment and how I verified it? In any case, I was a bit surprised at the revert.
Separately, I think it would still be helpful for that particular article to address the small issues that I mentioned in the reverted comments. How should I convey these comments? If I repost them on the FAC page, I am guessing I will be reverted again. Aterbiou (talk) 12:51, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- This is a little borderline. I cannot directly answer this since I am unaware of any consensus about this, but in short if you have verified it, it should be fine. However, you should probably
keepshow that the "LLM" part was
verified to by yourself, since that is not needed and it may probably cause confusion (sources by LLMs are regarded as hallucinations, despite current LLMs being better at that). Also, I can see in the diff that you framed it as "the LLM says this, disputes that" which causes confusion. I did not check if your claims were accurate.
- Even if you were wrong, I do not see how they can just revert your comment. According to WP:TPO, "Never edit or move someone's comment to change its meaning, even on your own talk page. Removing others' comments is prohibited, except on one's own user talk page or if the comments violate scenarios outlined above." Which in this case I do not see that your comment violated anything.
- I don't have the full context here, but I may be wrong. If the specific editor keeps on reverting your edits on a talk page, read the boomerang essay before reporting them to WP:ANI. This may or may not be poor conduct by the reverting editor. Once again, I am in no position to accuse anyone, but based on your provided context, I do not see how reverting your edit is allowed.
- I hope you find my advice helpful.
- Sincerely,
- 16dvnk (talk) 13:15, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- P.S. By "keep LLM use to yourself" I meant that you should transparently show how you used it here. My bad! 16dvnk (talk) 13:18, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply!
- Do you mean that such a comment should include an "LLM disclosure" statement, for example? I am aware that LLM use disclosure is recommended (e.g., this Wikipedia essay), but it was not clear to me how much it applied to the case outlined above. I would be happy to include such a statement, though.
- EDIT: I see you edited your original reply to essentially say the same. Makes sense. Aterbiou (talk) 13:35, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- You can probably add in the edit summary that you used AI to assist you for verifying the sources. You can also use a spot-check table (or something similar) like Veracity. You can say something like "The article writes "XXX" while the source writes "YYY" (verbatim), which is correct" or "The article writes "ZZZ" but there is no mention about that...".
- You should also be clear of how you did things like how you did here just now (In short, I used the LLM for discovering potential issues / sources, and proceeded from there manually, verifying the content by myself). Would be more transparent, since the reverting editor thinks that your statement may be factually incorrect or AI-generated (still, I do not see why they did a revert, they should have collapsed it if they thought it was generated by AI).
- Thank you. 16dvnk (talk) 13:45, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- P.S. By "keep LLM use to yourself" I meant that you should transparently show how you used it here. My bad! 16dvnk (talk) 13:18, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Your comments read like the set of bullet points an llm will create as an answer to a question. They do not give the appearance that any follow up was made to the llm-generated comments. That is unlikely to be appreciated at FAC, which have been worked on for quite awhile. If you use an llm and it suggests an issue such as "The second should presumably be E. vieirai.", don't presume, check. CMD (talk) 13:49, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Sorry, but this is an unfair accusation. The LLM gave me a list of 10 "issues" with a very large amount of text describing them. I read them, I chose the ones I thought most relevant, and then I manually verified them. Then I wrote them in my own words. I chose to present them as bullet points because it seemed the simplest.
- In particular, the LLM never said "presumably". It said "The range of Echimys vieirai is incorrectly assigned to E. saturnus. — Direct factual error" (and then gave a paragraph explaining it in detail). I wrote "presumably" to make the comment friendlier and non-accusatory. Aterbiou (talk) 14:08, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- None of what I wrote above was an accusation, fair or not. CMD (talk) 14:12, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- I see, sorry, I misunderstood your comment. Aterbiou (talk) 14:19, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Yes, but how you presented it seemed questionable. They were not accusing you of being wrong, rather they were saying that your framing caused misunderstandings.
- Sincerely,
- 16dvnk (talk) 14:13, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- You should understand that there is a culture of strong dislike for AI / LLMs in the Wikipedia community. Even uses that are allowed per policy are going to generate pushback and generally be unpopular with other users.
- Add to that that the featured article process is a sub-community within Wikipedia that has a bit of a reputation as being difficult to navigate to newer users.
- You haven't done anything wrong, but there may be some politics going on there that you're not familiar with. MrOllie (talk) 14:13, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Agreed. 16dvnk (talk) 14:14, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Courtesy note:
- This has been resolved at Aterbiou's talk page, with the revert being a mistake. The edit was subsequently brought back and the editors at FAC already addressed the feedback (with the LLM disclaimer added and with the better framing taught here). 16dvnk (talk) 02:21, 5 August 2026 (UTC)

Article not reviewed for months.
[edit]I have been editing this article for months but it looks like it has not been reviewed since February. Hope anyone can help, thanks. N niyaz (talk) 14:01, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Here's the article: National Integrated Immigration System. N niyaz (talk) 14:02, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Hello, @N niyaz, and welcome to the Teahouse.
- What do you mean by "reviewed"?
- There is no system in place for reviewing articles, except in particular cases such as drafts submitted under WP:AFC, or New pages patrol, or promoting an article to good article or featured article.
- If you have particular questions about the article after your edits, then the article's talk page or that of a related WikiProject would be the best place to ask. ColinFine (talk) 14:10, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- I see, I will convert it to afc i guess. Thanks for the help N niyaz (talk) 14:14, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- While you wait, I'd suggest that you take the peer review feedback that you received on the talk page and incorporate that (it was left there on April 20th): Draft_talk:National_Integrated_Immigration_System#Comments_by_AdaCiccone
- In addition to what was said there, I'd also work on improving the prose. I'm new here myself, but some parts of your draft read awkwardly. For example, this sentence under "eGate":
MyTrip and MyRentas were made available for Malaysians as the first proof of concept for QR code eGate on 1 June 2024, MyTrip was embedded in MySejahtera and utilised in Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB) while MyRentas was utilised in Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI).
- ...is:
- a comma splice, i.e. it joins two independent thoughts together
- a bit heavy on proper nouns, making it read like a dry listing
- (presumably) lacks pluralization on the "eGate" (→ "eGates")
- I also like to put the date first for paragraphs describing events, so that the reader registers it as an event quicker, even if they're unfamiliar with the topic and/or the names and language that may be used in it. Consider:
On 1 June 2024, MyTrip and MyRentas were introduced for Malaysians as the first proof of concept for QR code eGates. MyTrip was integrated into the MySejahtera app for use at the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB), whereas MyRentas was implemented at the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI).
- If you want, I can help copy-edit the rest after you're done incorporating @AdaCiccone's feedback. Hope this helps! — EmoryNB (they/them) talk contribs 16:13, 4 August 2026 (UTC)

Not only that, but there are articles for these political parties and people associated with them. Not every political party or person in the list has a article, there are even parties on the list that don't have a source, so i do think we must find sources for these. Anyways, all i'm saying is that the English equivalent article must include information from this vientmaese article, and i'm not going to do all of it because it's too much for me, which is the reason why i'm writing it in the Teahouse. Also, i scrolled Teahouse and i was piqued by two discussions about Astroganger, and read the entirety of the two discussioms. I happen to be interested in Astroganger, so seeing this makes me suprised it's even talked about in the Teahouse. Well, to be kind of fair, Astroganger was very popular in the Middle East and is well-known over there, as well as presumably being more known in Spain and Italy than in Japan, and also being the first super robot animated show, with it being 2 months before Mazigner Z, so there is a substantial amount of people that know this, which explains why it appeared on the Teahouse, even if it's not particurarly famous in the anime community. ~2026-42949-06 (talk) 19:01, 4 August 2026 (UTC)

- Directions for changing your username are at WP:Changing username. But if you just don't like it, there are two easier suggestions: (1) Change your "signature" instead of changing your name; that will determine what people see when you post here, and you can do it yourself. There are directions linked from the name change page. (I have done this, which is why my name is purple!) (2) Start a new account with the name you prefer. Put a message on both old and new account User pages saying that they are both you, and committing to only using the new one. If you have hardly done anything with your account so far, this is simple and easy.
- If you want to talk about your unpublished novel, try social media or an online writer's group. This is not the place. It's not even the place for the majority of published novels. M kuhner (talk) 23:40, 4 August 2026 (UTC)

Question about Youtube as a source
[edit]Hello Teahouse! I'm not a new new editor but I'm definitely not that experienced yet and I only just became active a few weeks ago. I was wondering if this Youtube video, and the others in its series, could be used a source when improving the article Dedra Meero, which I created a couple of weeks ago. I know that Youtube can be used as a source at times, but I don't know if this scenario qualifies. I know that this would be considered a primary source, but it will be useful to get more information about how Denise Gough prepared and played the role. Any advice about how to improve the article in general would also be appreciated. Thank you! MasterRayvis (talk) 22:50, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Hello MasterRayvis! That would largely depend on what statements you'd be extracting from that video. Claims from YouTube videos are subject to the same content policies as claims from other sources, although as you're aware, they're scrutinized more heavily because of that nature. Here, the most relevant such policy appears to be that prohibiting original research. In short, a claim must be expressly stated in a source such that someone without specialized knowledge of the subject—in this case, perhaps someone who's not a Star Wars fan—can easily derive it on their own. Otherwise, it would be considered original research, whether from a combination of personal "analysis, evaluation, interpretation, or synthesis." Essentially, you can only take away the most obvious claims made by a source: if a video says, "John Smith found working on the set of The Best Movie Ever stressful," then later, "Smith later quit his job as an actor due to stress," you wouldn't be able to say, "Smith quit his job due to the stress he endured on the set of The Best Movie Ever," as that would be synthesis arriving at a claim not expressly stated. You mentioned wanting to use it as a primary source. On that, you may wish to consider reading through the section pertaining to primary sources in the policy on original research. To summarize it, primary sources can be used to support "straightforward, descriptive statements of facts that can be verified by any educated person with access to the primary source." The difference between how you treat primary and secondary sources according to this policy seem to be that no amount of analysis, evaluation, interpretation, or synthesis is permitted because doing so with primary sources in accordance with the policy is simply not possible. At this point, I'd also like to note that our policies on biographies of living persons would apply here too, namely the section advising "extreme caution" in using primary sources to do something other than augment a statement already supported by a secondary source. In general, its advised not to base large sections of articles on primary sources, but in my experience, this policy issues a de facto ban on doing so with biographies of living persons. Essentially, whether you can use it depends on how easily you can take your claim away from it.I stated earlier that YouTube videos as sources are subject to more scrutiny than other sources. There are several factors at play here, the two most pertinent often being its alignment with our copyright policy and whether it qualifies as a reliable source. Indeed, this isn't any different from how other sources are treated—it's just that YouTube videos are especially prone to violating one of these two considerations. You can read through the infromation page on video links for guideance on this, but to summarize it, make sure that what you're linking to isn't a copyright violation, i.e., hadn't been uploaded without permission from the copyright owner. Even if it purports to have been uploaded under a claim of fair use, you should critically assess whether that'd likely be considered valid. Also, make sure that it'd be considered a reliable source in general. Given the nature of YouTube as a host of user-generated content, anyone can upload anything without review or ensured quality, so make sure that the publisher of the work is trustworthy, among other considerations.Any combination of what I wrote would influence whether you can use that source to support changes to the article. If you want, you could provide some more information on what you're trying to extract so we can help you out better. In any case, I wish you the best of luck! New Account
[edit]so, hi, I am a student that has a particular interest in classical arts (classical music) and Medieval history.... I decided to create an account because less people would get confused and think I am a troll or something. Now, if any admin is here, a day ago, some user called Honeydewdrop saw my Temporary account as a sockpuppet because i had multiple temporary accounts , but one IP. I want to ask this, so, I hope I am not being seen as a sockpuppet and will not get blocked or anything. Because I never made disruptive edits, and I really never had control over temporary accounts. They would just change every few days.... and I never aimed to make disruptive edits or vandalise. RainbowUnicornKitty (talk) 05:51, 5 August 2026 (UTC)

- thank you, but i'm still really concerned because of that thing that Honeydewdrop said RainbowUnicornKitty (talk) 06:14, 5 August 2026 (UTC)
- Hello, RainbowUnicornKitty. Temporary accounts should last 90 days so I am not sure why you experienced changes every few days. But now that you have a registered account, just log into your account every time you want to edit and temporary accounts will no longer be of any relevance to your contributions. As for Honeydewdrop, that is a brand new account that is already blocked briefly for edit warring. That person has no access to your IP address and their attempt to convince a checkuser to take a closer look was not successful. So, go about the business of improving the encyclopedia with your new account, and do not worry about that incident. Cullen328 (talk) 06:25, 5 August 2026 (UTC)
