Kuo Zhang (Chinese: 张阔; pinyin: Zhāng Kuò) is a Chinese business leader. He has been President of Alibaba.com, the Alibaba Group’s the business-to-business e-commerce platform, Since 2017. Career
[edit]Before joining Alibaba, Zhang worked as a researcher at IBM and later held program management roles at Microsoft in Beijing.[2] He joined Alibaba Group in 2011, where he first developed merchant tools for Taobao, the company's consumer marketplace. In 2017, he was appointed president of Alibaba.com[2][3]

He has worked to attract small and medium-sized businesses in the United States, even while trade tensions between U.S. and china continued[2] In a 2024 interview with Rest of World, he described the company's strategy for competing with other platforms and shared his perspective on global trade during a time of tariff uncertainty.[2]
Zhang has appeared on Bloomberg Television in 2024 and 2025, where he spoke about Alibaba.com's tariffs pose for small business suppliers, and the company's adoption of artificial intelligence tools.[4][5]
In June 2024, Zhang said that business to business trade is well suited to artificial intelligence. He noted that AI listing tools had reduced the time time small businesses need to publish product listing on Alibaba.com[6] At Alibaba.com's CoCreate summit in September 2024, Zhang presented an AI-based sourcing tool for overseas buyers and announced partnerships with Mastercard and Maersk on trade financing and shipping logistics.[7] In July 2024, Fortune reported on an Alibaba.com program launched at the Paris Olympics to help former professional athletes move into entrepreneurship. Zhang was featured as the company's president.[8]
In interviews with Sina Finance and Sina Technology in late 2024 and early 2025, Zhang spoke about simplifying trade financing processes for small exporters and introduced an AI‑powered product search tool called Accio.[9][10]
In March 2026, Business Insider reported on the rise of one person companies in China. Zhang described artificial intelligence agents as functioning like employees for these solo entrepreneurs.[11] In March 2026, Fortune reported on the emergence of one person companies using autonomous AI systems.
