Vague redirect?

[edit]

Why does this redirect to {{Edit protected}}? This seems awfully vague, and while going through semi-protected edit requests, I frequently encounter requests mistaking that template for {{Edit COI}}, which is understandable to be honest. I really think this template should just be deprecated, like Special:Diff/1164994026 or something similar. pattersonuwu njz (talk) 02:23, 17 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Agreed. I had made a comment on similar lines at Wikipedia_talk:Edit_requests/Archive_2#COI_parameter meamemg (talk) 18:45, 17 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
For the love of god, please don't touch this. It's one of the first red flags for people pasting in slop edit requests from chatgpt or its cursed brethren. I don't know why they use this specific one, but they do, and it's become an invaluable honeypot. Deacon Vorbis (carbon  videos) 03:54, 18 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Goootcha. Could we just add a warning to it then? Just a small one, warning COI editors to use a different template? I doubt the LLMs would pick up on that, perhaps its not worth the "risk" though pattersonuwu njz (talk) 07:16, 18 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'd say it's probably not needed; those that actually read through WP:COI are directed to the normal template name instead ofo this, so it probably wouldn't save anything. Deacon Vorbis (carbon  videos) 13:04, 18 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, I did not consider this. That answers a few of my questions about why so many edit requestors do this. LizardJr8 (talk) 17:02, 25 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
