Just a reminder
[edit]Abbr shouldn't be this: United States or this: United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Tjaž Forint (talk) 05:34, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
- Uh.... yes? And? Primefac (talk) 14:25, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- it aint in there lol Tjaž Forint € (talk) 16:23, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- Your first example is pointless, and the second is the wrong way round: it should be UK --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 19:44, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- Oh wait, TjazForint do you mean that we don't have examples of how not to use the template backwards? I don't know if that's a common enough problem to put in the "/doc" page. The link issue and the accessibility issue are something that are more common and potentially confusing; that's why they have examples, Rjjiii (talk) 21:13, 17 May 2025 (UTC)

Requested move 20 August 2026
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: moved. RM is ripe for closing as discussion has slowed dramatically with the last re-list only brining in one more participating editor. Editors have opted to choose a descriptive name in accordance with WP:TPN. Arguments to keep the template consistent with the underlying HTML tag were outweighed by the desire to make the template name easy to understand and follow TPN. – Per WP:TPN, Template names should be made of one or more words, and describe the template clearly, as in
Seems to be the most appropriate name for this template, with "abbr" not being super clear to non-technical users. Similar to my RM at {{Cquote}}. - Support both per WP:TPN. Steel1943 (talk) 20:51, 21 August 2026 (UTC)
- Support both per nom and TPN. Of course it's tempting to abbreviate abbreviation but the guideline to use words and make template names easy to understand is controlling and should be followed here. —Myceteae🍄🟫 (talk) 22:16, 22 August 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose This is named after then HTML "abbr" tag and should follow what HTML uses. * Pppery * (alt) in solidarity 22:03, 25 August 2026 (UTC)
- {{Spaces}} is like this though, formerly {{nbsp}}? I don't see how consistency with the software should ignore TPN. Axolitl (talk | contribs) 23:23, 25 August 2026 (UTC)
- This is a weak justification. I agree with Axolitl that this does not supersede WP:TPN. {{Abbr}} will remain as a redirect. The full name is not likely to be a source of confusion for anyone familiar with the HTML tag and the template documentation explains what it does in terms of HTML. —Myceteae🍄🟫 (talk) 20:02, 28 August 2026 (UTC)
- Soft Oppose per Pppery; the template name matches the HTML tag. – Jonesey95 (talk) 22:44, 25 August 2026 (UTC)
- Weak support the template it's self should probaby not be abbreviated but it might be fine to abbreviate it given given it's name. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:47, 28 August 2026 (UTC)
- Note: WikiProject Microformats has been notified of this discussion. —RMCD bot 21:33, 1 September 2026 (UTC)
- Support per WP:TPN. The redirect at Template:Abbr and the documentation will take care of the rest. Arbitrarily0 (talk) 01:15, 12 September 2026 (UTC)
