Tawesco is a Czech engineering company based in Kopřivnice. It produces press tools, stamped and welded metal components, and heavy welded structures for the automotive and machinery industries.[1] The company is part of Promet Group.[2]
The company was established in 1995 as Nářaďovna TATRA, a toolmaking subsidiary of the truck manufacturer Tatra. It was renamed Tawesco in 2002 and became part of Promet Group in 2011.[3][4][5]
History
[edit]Tawesco was incorporated on 5 January 1995 as Nářaďovna TATRA, spol. s r.o.[3] It developed from Tatra's toolmaking operations in Kopřivnice and later expanded into metal stamping and welding.[1]
In 2002, the company adopted the Tawesco name as part of a reorganisation of Tatra's manufacturing subsidiaries.[4]
Promet Tools acquired Tawesco from Tatra in 2011. The transaction was approved by the Czech Office for the Protection of Competition in March that year.[5] Tawesco subsequently became part of Promet Group.[2]
In 2016, the company reported revenue of CZK 1.7 billion and operating profit of CZK 187 million. Around one fifth of its production was supplied to Tatra, while other customers included Škoda Auto.[2] By 2019, annual revenue had grown to nearly CZK 2 billion, with customers including Audi and Volvo.[6]
In 2025, Tawesco opened a welding training centre at its Kopřivnice plant to help address a shortage of qualified welders. The centre is used to train employees and students in cooperation with a welding school in nearby Studénka.[7]
Manufacturing
[edit]Tawesco manufactures tooling and metal components for the automotive and machinery industries. Its activities include press-tool production, stamping, welding and the manufacture of heavy welded structures.[1]
The company's main plant is located in the Tatra industrial complex in Kopřivnice. In 2023, Tawesco reported about 50,000 square metres of production space and 935 employees.[1]
Its subsidiary Tawesco Automotive operates plants in Úvaly and Pečky and produces stamped and welded components for the automotive industry.[8] Tawesco, Tawesco Automotive and Tawesco Trailers are marketed by Promet Group under the Tawesco Industry name.[9]
