Promet Group (stylized as PROMET GROUP) is a Czech family-owned industrial group headquartered in Ostrava. Its companies manufacture press tools, stamped and welded automotive components, castings, forgings and heavy steel structures, and provide industrial construction and engineering services. The group comprises more than forty companies, with operations in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Croatia.[1][2]
One of its main industrial companies is Tawesco, a manufacturer of press tools, stamped and welded components and heavy fabricated structures. Promet Group also holds, through Promet Tools, a 35% stake in Czech truck manufacturer Tatra Trucks and has an investment in Croatian engineering company Đuro Đaković.[3][4][5]
In its 2026 ranking of Czech family businesses, Forbes Česko placed Promet Group 10th and reported revenue of CZK 14.9 billion and about 4,100 employees.[6]
History
[edit]Promet Group traces its origins to 1992, when René Matera and business partner Radim Cvikl established a company trading materials for the metallurgical industry. Matera had previously worked in the engineering and metallurgical operations of Vítkovice.[7]
The company entered manufacturing through the acquisition of a foundry in Vsetín in 1999. Promet Group was established as the parent company in 2001 to coordinate the growing group of businesses.[2]
During the 2000s, the group expanded further into engineering. In 2011, it acquired full ownership of Tawesco, a company in Kopřivnice that had developed from the tooling and stamping operations of Tatra. Tawesco became one of Promet Group's main manufacturing companies.[3]
In 2013, Promet and the industrial group that later became Czechoslovak Group acquired Tatra Trucks. Promet's interest is held through Promet Tools, which owns 35% of the truck manufacturer.[7][4]
The group expanded further outside the Czech Republic in 2022, when DD Acquisition, a company established by Promet Group and CE Industries, became the majority shareholder of Croatian industrial manufacturer Đuro Đaković.[5]
René Matera died in 2023 after beginning to transfer management of the family business to the next generation. His daughter Denisa Materová later became chief executive of Promet Group, while other members of the Matera family remained involved in the business.[7][8][1]

Its companies manufacture automotive and machinery components, castings, forgings, steel structures and industrial equipment, while other businesses provide construction, electrical engineering and logistics services.[2]
Engineering and automotive
[edit]Tawesco, based in Kopřivnice, is one of the group's main manufacturing companies. It produces press tools, welding fixtures, stamped and welded components, heavy weldments and assembled parts. Its products are supplied to companies in the automotive, agricultural, forestry and material-handling industries.[3]
Tawesco originated from Tatra's tooling operations and was acquired by Promet Group in 2011. Promet subsequently invested in expanding its pressing and welding capacity. The company supplies manufacturers including Škoda Auto, while also expanding its business outside the automotive sector.[3][9]
Metallurgy and industrial services
[edit]The group's metallurgical businesses produce iron and steel castings, forgings and machined components. Other companies within the group are active in industrial construction, technological installations, electrical engineering and logistics.[2]
Major holdings
[edit]Tatra Trucks
[edit]Promet Group has held an interest in Tatra Trucks since 2013. Its subsidiary Promet Tools owns 35% of the company, while Czechoslovak Group holds the majority stake.[4]
In 2026, STV Invest and Promet Group notified the European Commission of a proposed transaction under which they would acquire joint control of Promet Tools and thereby participate in the joint control of Tatra Trucks. An initial notification in June was withdrawn in July, and the transaction was notified again on 31 August 2026.[10]
Đuro Đaković
[edit]In 2022, Promet Group and CE Industries invested in Croatian industrial group Đuro Đaković through their jointly owned company DD Acquisition. DD Acquisition became the majority shareholder of the company, whose activities include railway transport, defence, machining and energy.[5]
The investment expanded Promet Group's activities into railway manufacturing. In 2024, Denisa Materová said that production of freight wagons at Đuro Đaković had increased following the investment and that further expansion was planned.[9]
