In general, sources are essential for Wikipedia content, but the requirements are relaxed for plot sections. MOS:PLOT: "In a Wikipedia article on a work of fiction, the work itself serves as a primary source for a written description of the plot. Wilmer Valderrama

Plot summary

I'm wondering, if maybe the plot summary should also explain what the city of Zootopia is? Like explaining it has all different animals from different parts of the world, and is divided into clime controlled zones? Couse, I think for now the plot summary just assumes the reader saw the first movie/read its article, and those who didn't would lack some context to understand the plot. After the first mention of "Zootropolis" I suggest adding this footnote: "As explained in Zootopia § Alternative titles, this is due to Disney being unable to trademark the name "Zootopia" in some territories." @SomeAnotherCastaway: BOM & the numbers report it's grossed $992 million, so don't change it to a billion yet. BOM is the source typically used per MOS:FILMBOXOFFICE. This Deadline article says it WILL pass a billion, however, since Wikipedia is not a crystal ball, we should wait until this is explicitly confirmed, preferably by BOM which has the exact values. Pre-release box-office expectations

@SNUGGUMS: I'm going to disagree with your assertion that what people expected before doesn't matter in the slightest. What expectations were ahead of time is, well, part of the reporting on the film. I would also point to several of our WP:Featured articles on films such as Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Baby Driver, John Wick (film), Mission: Impossible – Fallout, and Tropic Thunder—all of which cover pre-release box-office expectations to at least some extent. I do agree with you that Wikipedia should focus more on actual results, however, but that's a matter of relative WP:WEIGHT rather than inclusion versus exclusion. It has never made sense to me how anybody would willingly go out of their way to insert mere expectations on grosses into any film page. Why do you or anyone else care about such minor details? Those additions are purely trivia with little to no encyclopedic value in the first place. To be honest, they become especially expendable once we know for certain the amount a movie earns over a particular time period. Actual numbers on earnings (and any achievements made from them) are all that's truly important. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 23:30, 20 December 2025 (UTC)

Do you not think it is encyclopedic/relevant if a film was an unexpected hit or an unexpected flop? I think it is, much in the same way that an upset victory or loss in a political election or sports competition is. Omitting what expectations were ahead of time, when they substantially differ from the eventual outcome, is in my opinion simply not telling the whole story. In terms of the WP:Featured article criteria I would say that it is required for comprehensiveness, and in terms of WP:Core content policies I think it is an WP:ASPECT that should be treated with a weight proportional to its treatment in the body of reliable, published material on the subject just like any other. The verdict on whether something is a hit or flop matters far more than whatever people expected ahead of release, so no that's not relevant enough to be worth adding, and it's misleading to call such expectations "required for comprehensiveness". Not all movie articles (regardless of overall quality) add them nor would it be inherently worth implementing even if one could find that. Keep in mind how WP:NOTNEWS says "while including information on recent developments is sometimes appropriate, breaking news should not be emphasized or otherwise treated differently from other information". By no means would I count earning predictions as something worth putting emphasis on. Wikipedia is supposed to be a place for known answers, not speculation that's often subject to change over time. That something was unexpectedly successful or unsuccessful is however something that is often reported in retrospect as well. For instance, reporting on Titanic (1997) more than a decade after its release noted that it had been widely predicted to be financially unsuccessful but of course saw unprecedented financial success instead, and similar things could be said about the original Star Wars (1977) as well. Like I said, this is an aspect that should be treated like any other—in accordance with WP:PROPORTION. It shouldn't be included as an inherently-worthwhile piece of information, but nor should it be excluded as an inherently-worthless piece of information. Too many cast members listed?

The "Voice cast" section seems too long, to the degree that it's difficult to tell which characters/cast members actually have significance. This seems to me to be due to an abundance of cameos; most of those actors show up for maybe three seconds and one line of dialogue, and many of their characters aren't even named within the film (their names seem to be exclusively puns for marketing material). As per the advice on MOS:FILMCAST (Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information, so try to name the most relevant actors and roles that are most appropriate for the film), I'd like to suggest cutting the list down, probably to include only characters mentioned in a secondary source outside of a listing of celebrity cameos. twotwos (talk) 06:50, 27 December 2025 (UTC)

Should we fix the plot?

The plot needs to be shortened slightly, and there are a couple of errors or things that might need fixing (e.g. the end of the fifth paragraph, ". . . Judy saves Nick while Nibbles and Mayor Brian Winddancer stop the other Lynxleys." should be changed to "Judy and Gary save Nick . . . they rush past the Lynxleys while Mayor Winddancer and Nibbles stop them" or something like that), also Winddancer should be mentioned earlier. Additionally, is there a reason why there is a plot comment to not include mentions of a mid-/post-credits scene? Plenty of other movies do it. Thanks! Aepeul (talk) 03:14, 5 January 2026 (UTC)

3-day Thanksgiving weekend debut

Articles for films like Frozen and Moana 2 that debuted over the Thanksgiving holiday included their 3-day weekend debut numbers. Why can't this film? And1987 (talk) 20:15, 19 January 2026 (UTC)

I don't think I've seen any sources reporting the 3-day opening weekend numbers for the worldwide gross, only the 5-day numbers, so that would be why only the latter are included here. If you meant specifically the 3-day US and Canada figure, it obviously could be included, but is there any particular reason it should? All the other figures for the opening are 5-day grosses.
