Change of name

[edit]

The organization controlling the world championships has again changed its name. It is now the World Dance Council (WDC), and so the title of this and other articles must be changed also. Their website says:

"The WDC is the world authority for professional Dance and Dance Sport incorporating the World Dance Sport Committee and the World Social Dance Committee.
"The World Dance Council Ltd, until 1st June 2006 known as the World Dance & Dance Sport Council Ltd (WD&DSC), fomerly the International Council of Ballroom Dancing (ICBD), was established on 22nd September 1950 in Edinburgh, Scotland."

I am going to suggest that, for the sake of simplicity, we call this article World Professional Ballroom Champions, with the present fuller description in the lead para. Macdonald-ross (talk) 17:13, 27 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

later: omit 'Professional' so we can later add Amateurs without creating separate articles. Note also the use of 'Ballroom' instead of Standard or Modern derives from the WDC, not any personal preference. Macdonald-ross (talk) 18:30, 27 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Dancesport World Champions (Professional Standard)World Ballroom Dance Champions — First, the name of the supervising authority has changed (explained in intro); second, by leaving out 'Professional' allows Amateur champions to be listed also; third, new titles are simpler.
