Correction regarding "Second Oldest" claim for the Candelaria of Silang

[edit]

I would like to dispute the claim in the article stating that the image of Our Lady of Candelaria of Silang is the "second oldest Virgin of Candelaria image in the country." While it is arguably the oldest in Cavite (1640), historical records indicate that the Our Lady of Candelaria of Paracale (Camarines Norte) is chronologically older. The Paracale image was brought by Franciscan missionaries and established in the parish in 1611, which predates the 1640 discovery/arrival of the Silang image by 29 years. Chronological Timeline for Reference: Jaro, Iloilo (1587): Widely recognized as the oldest. Paracale, Camarines Norte (1611): Arrival of the ivory image with the Franciscans. Silang, Cavite (1640): Discovery of the image (the parish was founded earlier in 1595, but originally dedicated to San Diego de Alcala). Unless a primary source can be provided to prove the Silang image existed before 1611, the "second oldest in the country" claim should be modified to "one of the oldest" or "oldest in the province" to maintain historical accuracy. ~2026-89601-9 (talk) 05:46, 10 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
