Splitting the article

[edit]

Due to the size and breadth of the article, it might be helpful to split it into several subarticles per WP:SUMMARYSTYLE:

  • Split Games into List of Touhou Project games, leaving a summary of the PC-98 era, ZUN's transition into Windows, noteworthy new mechanics introduced over time, and a table of the games and their release dates
  • Split Other Media into List of Touhou Project media, leaving a two- to three-paragraph summary of music releases (without naming every one) and a three- to four-paragraph summary of print media (particularly long-running serialized manga).
  • Split Reception and Legacy into Cultural influence of Touhou Project; the part remaining in the article should focus mostly on summarizing the scope of its influence (i.e. number of doujin works) rather than naming every individual example, and include evaluation of its gameplay, which is currently missing.

No information would be removed (in fact, focusing this article on core aspects of the series would allow pertinent information to be added); it would just be relocated to subarticles to prevent this article from overwhelming a reader looking for a reasonably-sized summary. If there's no objection to this proposal, I plan to carry it out in a few weeks. Crestfalling (talk/contribs) 00:05, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

I'm neutral on splitting the article. Currently the post-expand include size is Post‐expand include size: 522271/2097152 bytes, so we're not in any danger yet of templates not transcluding correctly. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 19:49, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Interesting, I hadn't heard of that, so learned something new today. I was thinking along the lines of WP:SIZERULE, which recommends considering splitting at around >9000 words of readable prose. This article currently weighs in at around 11500 words, even excluding the lengthy captions. Crestfalling (talk/contribs) 23:07, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'm mostly alright with splitting as proposed. It sounds like you're keeping the timeline of games intact on this article? I don't think we need noteworthy new mechanics introduced over time under §Games because ¶3 under §Gameplay already goes into brief detail over that. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 14:26, 13 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Apologies for the late reply, but yes, I do plan to keep the timeline here. Noted on the mechanics as well, that makes sense. Crestfalling (talk/contribs) 22:37, 1 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Support splitting the "Reception and Legacy" section. I have created one in the Chinese Wikipedia: zh:東方Project的二次創作 (lit. "Derivative works of Touhou Project") and therefore know that it meets notability. If you want, I can translate the entry. Saimmx (talk) 17:21, 1 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Have created one: Draft:Derivative works of Touhou Project - still lots of way to go, but you can see how it went. Saimmx (talk) 18:12, 1 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, that's very helpful, and the draft looks great so far. I'm a little bit busy right now, but I'll try to help with translation and cleaning up the wikitext as well when I can. Crestfalling (talk/contribs) 22:41, 1 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
