I was searching JSTOR and I came upon them. I don't know much about sulh so I can't say they are representative. My previous exposure to the concept was in the form of "dar al-sulh". The first article relates to that moreso. The second talks about reconciliation after murder, specifically, and tells us that sulha is any specific instance of sulh. I didn't read it all but it is a completely different meaning (it seems) but still one of relevance. It also gives a more varied sense of the word "suhl" than just "truce"... since it's used as "peace making" and in the sense of that article (which is on an inter-personal level) it is not temporary (from what I gleaned). This doesn't make the political dimension non-temporary (as Jeffery below briefly points out) but it is of interest in terms of what the word means.

This one equates dar al-sulh and dar ul-`ahd as the "world of allies". They had to pay tribute. It was temporarily and could be broken by the imam with "due notice" (p. 5).

Well, this was my attempt to educate myself a little about the subject. If any of you have access to JSTOR or these journals through some other means I recommend maybe reading some of it and using them to write the article. gren グレン 15:10, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
