Obscure understanding
[edit]The article says (per date shawwal 1431), that the meaning of the name of the month, Shawwal, relates to the she-camels being pregnant at this time of the year. Does this imply that the breeding of camels also migrate through the year as the Hagira calendar do? Or does it indicate that the prophetic calendar suggest a resynchronisation between the lunar and solar year on a astronomical/cosmological level? Or that the names of the months refer to an earlier system, where the months were settled and not migrating? --Xact (talk) 19:41, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
- Pre-Islamic Arabian calendar was lunisolar like the Hebrew or the Chinese one -- from time to time, a thirteenth, intercalary month was added to synchronize the calendar with time of the year. So months used to occur roughly at a similar time of the year before the Prophet forbade the usage of the intercalary month.

[edit]It is necessary to state the time zone for the date given: for example 8th August 2013 is misleading, for it does not specify, Starting at dusk on the 8th, or Ending at dusk on that day. I myself saw the Hilal at dusk on the eighth, but Eidulfitr was celebrated on the morning of the eighth,although the moon was but 10 hours old at sunset on the 7th.
