Sub-breeds: German and American.

[edit]

Is it worth putting in a subsection on the two main sub-breeds, German classic Rottweilers and American thin Rottweilers. I rescued an american rottie and thought it was a rott x labrador, in small part due to this page. Are these two sub-breeds well established enough to mention? Large breed

[edit]
This breed of dog is large according to additional sources and other kennel club standards. I know that FCI says medium-large though. 2603:301D:709:9C00:248F:9ED2:1119:1551 (talk) 01:06, 8 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

What information? Traumnovelle (talk) 01:46, 10 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
On how it's large? Some information is outdated 2603:301D:709:9C00:976:4716:35C6:4905 (talk) 04:07, 10 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
What information specifically? It helps to give exact examples e.g. 'change "he was born in Germany" to "he was born in France"'. Traumnovelle (talk) 04:09, 10 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
The fact that most sources not including kennel clubs state that the breed is large 2603:301D:709:9C00:906E:E403:9609:8594 (talk) 19:18, 11 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
It says the breed is described as medium-large and large already. Traumnovelle (talk) 19:30, 11 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Yes but large seems more accurate 2603:301D:709:9C00:906E:E403:9609:8594 (talk) 19:33, 11 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thats weight not the size Traumnovelle (talk) 19:45, 11 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Yes but as I previously stated large seems more appropriate seeing how numerous sources have stated that 2603:301D:709:9C00:906E:E403:9609:8594 (talk) 19:47, 11 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Some information (references) haven't been updated since 2016 2603:301D:709:9C00:906E:E403:9609:8594 (talk) 19:48, 11 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Rather list it below in the size section below? 2603:301D:709:9C00:906E:E403:9609:8594 (talk) 19:49, 11 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Also some weight differences: because a couple ranges are given
Male weight:
  • 50–60 kg (110–132 lb)
  • 43–61.2 kg (95–135 lb) (AKC)
  • 50 kg (110 lb) (FCI)
  • As little as 43 kg (95 lb) or as much as 61.5-64 kg (135-141 lbs)
Female weight
  • 40-50 kg (88-110 lbs)
  • 40-48 kg (88-106 lbs)
  • 36.5-45.5 kg (80-100 lbs) (AKC)
  • 41-50 kg (90-110 lbs)
  • 42 kg (92.5 lbs minimum) (FCI)
  • As little as 36.5 kg (80 lbs) or as much as 48-50 kg (106-110 lbs)

We use the Fédération Cynologique Internationale standard as its the most widespread one, AKC standard only applies to America but FCI applies to dozens of countries. Traumnovelle (talk) 19:57, 11 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Ok. But still either way numerous sources state this breed is large not if that helps 2603:301D:709:9C00:906E:E403:9609:8594 (talk) 19:59, 11 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

We already state its considered large by some in the lead. Traumnovelle (talk) 20:06, 11 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Yes but still 2603:301D:709:9C00:906E:E403:9609:8594 (talk) 20:26, 11 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Differences in weight: male:
  • 43-61.5 kg (95-135 lbs) (average 115 lbs)
  • female: 36.5-45.5 kg (80-100 lbs) (average 90 lbs) according to AKC
  • Basic terms: 50-60 kg (110-132 lbs) for a male (average 55 kg 121 lbs)
  • Basic terms: 40-50 kg (88-110 lbs) for a female (average 45 kg 99 lbs)
  • Average: 50 kg (110 lbs) per both

So you want the AKC standard included for comparison? I disagree with that. It seems like a can of worms, where any national kennel club with a differing standard should be included. Unless the difference is substantial I don't see a point in comparing breed standards. Traumnovelle (talk) 02:08, 12 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
I know but as previously stated many sources state that the breed is large 2603:301D:709:9C00:906E:E403:9609:8594 (talk) 02:30, 12 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
FCI just gives a minimum weight I've checked the breed standard Famous Jack K (talk) 19:29, 14 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
