'Midwestern writing style'

Yes I was just about to make a talk section on here about this. The original quote from Dan Zak's article is:

"Roger Ebert taught the world to love the movies. Look how many movie lovers are publishing their gratitude in tribute, in personal terms. Look how some refer to “the movies,” with its definite article — his populist, intimate, Midwestern way of referring to his life’s passion."

It seems to me Zak is saying that "the movies" is a Midwestern thing to say, rather than Roger Ebert's writing style being 'Midwestern', whatever that may mean (and Dan Zak did not even say writing style in the cited article). Article review

It has been a while since this article was reviewed, so I took a look and noticed the following:

• There are uncited statements, including lots of the awards/honours he received.
• At over 12,000 words, the article is considered WP:TOOBIG. There are lots of large sections that can be trimmed or moved to other articles, like "Critical style" and "Preferences"
• There are lots of block quotes used in the article. Considering that the article is longer then the recommended length, I think this is a good place to better summarise the article.

There are uncited statements, including lots of the awards/honours he received. At over 12,000 words, the article is considered WP:TOOBIG and detailed. There are lots of large sections that can be trimmed or moved to other articles, like "Critical style" and "Preferences". There's also lots of block quotes used in the article. WRONG!

"In 1999, he founded the Overlooked Film Festival in his hometown of Champaign, Illinois." The man was from Urbana -- The article even says he was born there and went to UHS. Champaign is the twin city of Urbana. It's like St. Paul and Minneapolis. Kdammers (talk) 15:27, 7 August 2025 (UTC)
