Operation Cleanup

[edit]

@KashanAbbas: You have twice removed reliably sourced information despite being reverted, please discuss and gain consensus for your edits rather than edit war here. The edit summaries further neither cite no policy or guideline and are not grounded in any enwiki rationale either. To elaborate, Aslam is accused of involvement in extrajudicial killings (encounters in South Asia) that these led to further well-documented targeted killings of police officials and retribution in the form of more extrajudicial killings is reason enough for its dueness even beyond Rehman. We already provide well-borne context for the rest of article as well beyond Rehman (Lyari, paternal gangs and so on), this is no different. Gotitbro (talk) 18:53, 25 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Gotitbro I apologize for editwarring. I will settle my dispute here via discussion (after having breakfast of course). KashanAbbas (talk) 05:41, 26 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Gotitbro So, the source which contains the information which I kept removing is from BBC Urdu (which isn't an unreliable source in any way for the topic). In the article it says:

Transliteration:
Rahman Baloch araf 'dakiyat' ko Karachi mein polis maqablon ke liye mashahur afsar Chudhari Aslm ki party ne halak kiya jo shehr mein hone wale 1990 ke operation ke wahad zandah polis afsar hein. Mazi ke iss operation min hissa line wale baqi tamam aham polis afsaran ko targat killing menn halak kiya gaya hai.
Translation:
Rehman Baloch, alias ‘Dakit’, was killed in Karachi by the party of notorious police encounter officer Chaudhry Aslam, the only surviving police officer from the 1990 operation in the city. All other key police officers who participated in that past operation have been killed in target killings.
Now, no where does it mention Aslam taking part in Operation Clean-Up (at least in the source). Operation clean-up/Blue Fox took place from 1992 till 1994. The only police operation in Sindh that I am aware is the Pucca Qila operation, which took place in 1990.
One of my reasons for removing the information is that parts of it are wrong and mentioned no where in the source. But my main reasoning for removing the information is that, for the most part, it has little to do with Rehamn Dakait. Rehamn was only 9 or 10 when the 1990 operation took place and wann't even involved in gang violence by then. The Pakka Kila operation occurred up in the North near Pakistani Hyderabad whereas, at the time, Rehamn was likely in the South in Lyari, Karachi. The Pucca Qila operation was against Muhajirs and MQM-affiliated militants in Pakka Kila, not against Balochi gangsters in Lyari. KashanAbbas (talk) 11:28, 26 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
I am aware of the distinction between MQM and Lyari gangs. The BBC clearly refers to Karachi there (not Hyderabad) and 1990 is very well meant to be the 1990s than the literal year itself. And Aslam was after all only appointed in Karachi all through the 1990s. That clears up the WP:CONTEXT that the thing being referred to is the infamous police operation under Ms. Bhutto.
As for why it is due, the dueness stems from the fact and context that a police officer engaged in extrajudicial killings including this individual after his entire party was killed due to previous anti-criminal/anti-gang drives in the same city. Gotitbro (talk) 11:46, 26 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Gotitbro Information regarding Chaudry Alsam's past has a special place for it: Chaudhry Aslam Khan's Wikipedia page. (P.S this is I comment I was trying to make on Friday but my internaet was cut). KashanAbbas (talk) 05:24, 29 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Wikipedia article's do not exist in silos, the dueness of why it is relevant here as well has been explained with attribution to sources and P&G (policies and guidelines). Unless an objection can be sustained on those grounds, I don't think we have much to deliberate here anymore. Gotitbro (talk) 05:53, 29 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Gotitbro After reading your reply, yeah I agree. KashanAbbas (talk) 06:53, 29 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
