I propose merging Cryptovirology into Ransomware. The rejected AfD left a merge as am open question, so I am opening the discussion. --HamburgerRadio (talk) 01:23, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Support merge. The person who coined the term found that cryptoviral extortion was renamed by the media into ransomware. Cryptovirology is a term that was used in early academic research around cryptography in malware, but has since not become a mainstream term. It has been a while since this article has been reviewed, so I took a look and noticed the following:

There are uncited statements in the article, including entire paragraphs.
There is an "Update needed" orange banner at the top of the "Criminal arrests and convictions" section. Is this banner valid? Perhaps this section should be removed as WP:TMI?
