Untitled: Migration of tribes

Lacking is any mention of the migration of tribes into SE Arabia, such as that of the ruling family in the 16th-18th century. This is the same migration which brought Arab rule to neighbouring eastern Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. Are you referring to the legend of the Azd or the migration of the bedouin tribes in the 16th-18th centuries? The only impact the latter had on omani history is the introduction of the arab bedouins into the country and the ensuing wars between them and the natives Yefa36 (talk) 21:08, 23 November 2023 (UTC)

Biggest Cities

The section on the largest cities in the country is certainly outdated (the website it links to describes Nizwa as having around 72k residents, whereas the corresponding Wikipedia article for the city claims it has a population of around 120k). World map - Yaruba dynasty

What is the basis for the world map under the Yaruba dynasty subsection? The caption suggests it is from the 18th century. But it doesn’t make sense. For example, the continent of Australia was never subject to a small territory in the south east corner. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 02:32, 16 June 2021 (UTC)

It's probably an approximation of the actual extent of the Colony of New South Wales in the late 18th century, as opposed to lands stated in the colony charter that weren't settled. This map does something similar. NSW might have claimed half of Australia, but most Aboriginal Australians didn't hear about that until a bit later.Squire Zo (talk) 16:28, 21 June 2021 (UTC)

Orphaned references in Oman

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Oman's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Religion

In religion information, it states percentages of each Islam sec ( Sunny, Ibadi, Shai), but there is no source, and Oman does not ask people to identify nor does it conduct publish such stats.

Agreed, most importantly it seems that theyre either intentionally or unintentionally conflating the foreign presence with the citizens of the country so that there seems to be an unusually higher number of sunnis. It is also contradicting the religious demographic section which claims that most omanis are ibadis Yefa36 (talk) 21:12, 23 November 2023 (UTC)

Independence

In history, it was never stated when the British withdrew and Oman became their own country. On other sources I've found several different answers, so I don't really know for sure. 97.120.23.227 (talk) 17:29, 18 November 2022 (UTC)

Error in Orthographic Projection

this map?

Hello Max Epper and Drmies. I'm still here . The answer to your question, Max, is that I think the creator of the map used very (too) old data to make it. Then, when South Sudan became independent, he added this border. But without correcting the obsolete borders.

Flag

@Abo Yemen changed the flag to the one from the Omani Foreign Ministry, specifically here: - https://www.fm.gov.om/ministry/media/downloads/, but even the website itself contradics this here: https://www.fm.gov.om/about-oman/state/flag-emblem-and-national-anthem/, aswell as many other government websites showing this version, so i'm wondering what we should to about this? The website contradicted itself because it used the wrong version of the flag that is on wikipedia, which is a really normal thing to happen here. @Abo Yemen Here's a brief follow-up. The white-emblem version was in use YEARS before Wikipedia existed. The flag of Oman was changed in 1995 to have the fly stripes equal in height. Before then, the red stripe was thinner. Graham Bartram's website flags (dot) net had flag drawings created by the Flag Institute (a vexillological organization based in the UK). Their drawing of the Omani flag from 2000 or earlier featured a white emblem. SVG-image-maker (talk) 00:36, 12 August 2025 (UTC)

Lock to prevent vandalism

Country pages should be locked, just feels right. I can’t imagine a country page that isn’t locked SKIBIDIFATTY (talk) 16:17, 16 December 2025 (UTC)

That's just not a justifiable reason to lock a page, because it "just feels right". We may only lock pages when constant vandalism, disruptive editing, etc, is being done. Locking a page out of no reason may probably discourage editing amongst Temporary Accounts and may have to take the long way, which is redundant and time-consuming anyway in this case scenario.
