Wrong Photo

[edit]

The dog pictured is almost certainly a St Bernard. While the two breeds look very similar as StB is 50% of the original MW breeding stock, there are a couple of distinctive characteristics that the dog in this photo is missing.

1. St Bernards can be short or long haired, the latter due to cross breeding with Newfoundland. Moscow Watchdogs always have a long, fluffy, wooly coat. There's no such thing as a short/smooth/flat coated MW like the dog pictured.

2. Dog pictured is missing the characteristics freckle-like spotting on the muzzle that Moscow Watchdogs inherited from the Russian spotted hound.  Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.84.239.71 (talk) 04:22, 13 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hello. As the photographer of the earlier photo, I can confirm that it was taken in Budapest European Winner Dog Show 2008, next to the ring where the Moscow Watchdog was going to be presented (the Saint Bernard was not at the same ring) - the dogs were waiting there outside the ring for their turn to be shown at the ring. According to the catalogue (and dog's number) the dog was a Hungarian bred and owned Moscow Watchdog. --Canarian (talk) 19:03, 9 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
