Hassan Sharif was an American Islamic scholar in Newark, New Jersey. He served as the imam of Masjid Muhammad, where he was known for his dedication to the community and his efforts to promote health and wellness and his advocacy against gun violence. Since 2006, he had also worked as a TSA officer at Newark Liberty International Airport.[1]

Sharif worked in various community services. He was known for his work with the 2023 United Community Health and Mental Wellness Symposium at Rutgers University. He also worked on initiatives to combat domestic violence and protect youth.[2] Sharif opposed gun violence. His efforts were particularly important given the heightened tensions in the US during the Israel-Hamas war.[3]

He was shot outside his mosque on 3 January 2024. Authorities have said they do not believe the shooting was motivated by bias or domestic terrorism.[4][5][6][7] Djflem (talk) 16:23, 18 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
