2020 in videogaming and archiving

[edit]

Two questions: when do we "spin-off" 2020 into its own page? And should we see about archiving the first 20 or so items in the talk page, since they are 1) irregularly timed and 2) go back a little over ten years? --WTRiker (talk) 05:05, 11 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Last year someone created the 2019 in video gaming page the day E3 officially started, or maybe it was the last day of the show, I can’t remember. I’m not sure if they’re planning on doing so again this year. redsparta ••• talk to me 07:50, 11 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

The Expected Release Date for Final Fantasy VII Remake should be March 3 2020 instead of March 30 2020. The cited article shows the correct date. Mottman26 (talk) 14:48, 11 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Star Citizen should be in the vapourware section

[edit]

It has been acknowledged that the development of Star Citizen is currently in a phase that can be qualified as Development hell, and the lack of progress of the game has been noticed by several media, such as Wired (magazine) here  Preceding unsigned comment added by Cyruspellet (talkcontribs) 04:15, 1 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

The title of the section is "unknown status". The purpose is not to judge the likelihood that the games will be released, but rather to list games that have had no public communication in a long time. The term "vaporware" is too subjective to be the criterion for inclusion. Star Citizen still gets periodic public progress updates, and it should be moved back to the "In development" section. Add Divinity: Fallen Heroes. The game was put on hold https://www.polygon.com/2019/10/15/20916207/divinity-fallen-heroes-on-hold-baldurs-gate-3

Add Two Worlds 3. Won't release for another four to five years. https://wccftech.com/two-worlds-iii-still-preproduction/ Lymone54 (talk) 15:56, 17 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Dead Island 2 Vaporware?

[edit]

I understand the game has been in development hell and switched studios several times but it's clearly still being worked on since they just changed the studio in August 2019. I don't think personally it really warrants being in that category.  Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.113.148.116 (talk) 01:32, 22 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • I think it being on its third developer and missing its intended release date by over four years keeps it vaporware. It should probably remain until we get more info, such as a release date or new trailer. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 17:06, 22 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Quake Champions should be removed from list

[edit]

Quake Champions was released in 2017, but it says it’s in the unknown status. It should be removed from there since it’s was already released a while ago. 2601:1C2:1000:59E0:6189:6949:BB9:6430 (talk) 07:29, 19 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

2023 In Video Games

[edit]

I think we have enough now for a separate article for this, no? We have 3 games with specific release dates for next year (well, 2, and a confirmed December release), and many others with specific quarters of 2023 scheduled for release.  Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.110.105.226 (talk) 02:14, 5 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

The following games should be removed: Ray'z Arcade Chronology and RayStorm x RayCrisis HD were both released globally in 2023 (staggered between systems and regions), Humankind was released in August 2023 and Touhou Shoujo: Tale of Beautiful Memories was released on Nintendo Switch in September 2022. Additionally, Touhou Shinsekai: Longing For An Alternative World was released in japan in July 2023 but not yet worldwide, release date so far unannounced, and might be worth adding a note to signify this. --Kermamrek (talk) 09:04, 16 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Steam as a source

[edit]

The Unscheduled releases section frequently uses Steam as a citation for several listed games. Is this really necessary, seeing as Steam most likely count as a primary source? Signed, SleepyRedHair. (talk - contribs) 19:13, 4 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

We should only use secondary, reliable source (WP:VG/RS). Steam shouldn't be allowed here. OceanHok (talk) 00:31, 5 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
I use Steam as a citation when there are no other sources for an up-to-date release date. There are also a number of early access titles that don't have 1.0 release dates anywhere other than their Steam page or through updates posted by the developer on Steam. That being said, if a game has no secondary sources reporting on new release dates, you could make the case that it isn't notable enough to be listed here and should be removed. Platform legends on the article are currently weird

[edit]

Using "NX" and "NX2" for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 does not fit well. NS and NS2 are far more understandable for the general public. NX was just a codename for the first Switch.

Also, "XBO" is more concise than Xone. ~2025-39220-31 (talk) 05:29, 8 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Notice: Splitting "Games Released in [Year]" Section

[edit]

I'm currently going through all of the "[Year] in video games" pages and splitting the "Games released in" section. I am starting with the 2025 page and working my way down. I wanted to seek additional input from this page in particular, since this is the "in development" page for these articles.

I don't think it makes sense to split this "in development" page into 2 separate pages. Most of this page is already dedicated to the game releases, so all we'd be splitting off would be the "Film / TV releases". So does it make sense to just keep this page as is, and then split everything appropriately on a year-by-year basis? Or is there a better solution? 13akoors (talk) 03:16, 17 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

You're moving the "Games released in" tables to their own list pages; this page is the list page for games in development beyond 2026, and therefore needs no such splitting. In recent years, the next year's entries were usually moved to their own page around June, when a large number of game announcements are made. So it should be fine to leave this page alone for now and split off the 2027 entries this June as usual. Yiosie2356 05:40, 17 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
So when are we (or whoever is in charge of splitting the entries) going to split the 2027 entries? Considering it's already past June and all. MaksAkimov16 (talk) 10:46, 2 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure who's done this in the past, but I suppose I can handle the split if no one else will.
I'll be on vacation until Monday, so I can work on it then 13akoors (talk) 15:59, 2 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Split should be done, though I'm not sure if the Unscheduled Releases table normally goes with the new page, or stays on this one. Since it was above the 2028 section, I suspect it was meant to move, but feel free to move it back if not 13akoors (talk) 23:53, 5 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
