Question regarding article's length

[edit]

In my view, the article does seem a bit on the longer side with the two long sections being his death and Graham's political positions. While I don't agree with splitting his death into a separate article, perhaps is there a way to trim it down? But the main crux of this discussion is to see if we should split his political positions into Political positions of Lindsey Graham to reduce the article's length? Thoughts? Error in sister's age

[edit]

When he was 20, his mother died of Hodgkin's lymphoma at age 50, and his father died 15 months later of a heart attack at age 68. Because his sister, then 13 years old, was left orphaned, the service allowed Graham to attend the University of South Carolina in Columbia so he could remain near home as his sister's legal guardian. ... Graham helped raise his sister, Darline Graham Nordone, after his parents' deaths, which occurred within 15 months of each other, leaving the two without parents when Graham was 22 and she was 13.

One of these two statements is wrong. Either Graham was 20 and his sister 13, or he way 22 and his sister 13.

According to Darline Graham Nordone she waas 12 when her mother died. So the first paragraph should be changed to make it more clear what "then" means in "then 13 years old", given that it is put right after the mentioning of Graham's age as 20. Making it confusing Ybllaw (talk) 16:06, 14 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

This statement: "Either Graham was 20 and his sister 13, or he way 22 and his sister 13" is nonsensical.
Because if you are 20 years old and within three months of your 21st birthday, then 15 months later you will be 22. (Also, the word "was" does not have the letter Y in it.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by ~2026-38980-22 (talk) 15:38, 15 July 2026 (UTC) Reply

Your comment does not address what I wrote. My comment is about the confusing phrasing. To make it even shorter, this is what I was referring to:

When he was 20 ... his sister, then 13 years old
when Graham was 22 and she was 13.

While 15 months later does indeed clarify the 22 part, right now it is ambiguous to me what the "then" refers to. Whether it refers to after his mother died, or after his father died. I think that if there is no ambiguity, the sentence stating the ages of both "when Graham was 22 and she was 13", should not be required. Ybllaw (talk) 16:51, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
