First non-american to fly to the moon?

Astronaut?

Should Jeremy Hansen be called an astronaut if he has not yet flown in space? Seems like "Artemis crew member" is more accurate at this point. If the mission is cancelled or he is cut would he be an astronaut? Unknowntouncertain (talk) 21:47, 5 April 2023 (UTC)

WP apparently describes all persons selected for astronaut training as "astronauts" in the lede sections of their articles. Even the first sentence of the article on Duane Graveline, who famously resigned too soon to make the group photo (two months after his selection), reads, "Duane Edgar "Doc" Graveline (March 2, 1931 – September 5, 2016) was an American physician and NASA astronaut." Honorific prefix in infobox

We are including Colonel as an honorific prefix in the infobox. Here’s why I believe that we should not:

1. Per the infobox instructions this parameter is to be used for: "…honorifics of serious significance that are attached to the name in formal address, such as knighthoods, "The Honourable", and "His/Her Excellency"…". A rank is not such an honorific.
2. We already list the rank in the military career section.
3. In terms of precedence, I’ve looked at all of the pages for the members of the NASA Astronaut Corps and the Roscosmos Cosmonaut Corps. The vast majority of them are military officers, none have honorific titles like this. As to Canadian peers, Joshua Kutryk, also a Colonel, doesn’t have one either.

You know, I'm shaking my head, because I really thought this was a common practice. I see your point now that this is not the case. I'd be curious to hear the argument for keeping it, though, as this has been a constant back-and-forth. MediaKyle (talk) 14:36, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
