What could possibly go wrong?

[edit]

So, the IRS only accepts ID.me, the TSA Trusted Traveler Program only accepts login.gov, and Social Security accepts either. Update: Social Security accepts both login.gov and id.me.

And ID.me can also verify digital proof of COVID-19 vaccination and test results, REAL ID (required to fly within the United States), and patient identity for online healthcare portals and health records.

Login.gov is not owned and operated by the United States government. Login.gov is owned by two private companies: LexisNexis and Acuant.

ID.me is a private company and has a network of over 70+ million.
