unknown country of origin ?

[edit]

Russia ? Maybe, according to some journalists. --Wisdood (talk) 13:41, 28 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

The articly states it is believed to be based in Russia, but I'm surprised that even the cybercrime article doesn't cover the attribution problem, or maybe my search-foo escapes me today. -- Evilninja (talk) 17:41, 28 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Origin or meaning of the name

[edit]

There is quite a lot of information about Emotet but it seems noone knows why it was named Emotet.

Is it an acronym?

It seems it was named by trend micro in 2014. The oldest reference I could find was a blog that is no longer available. Can still be found in the wayback machine http://web.archive.org/web/20210227192129/https://blog.trendmicro.com/trendlabs-security-intelligence/new-banking-malware-uses-network-sniffing-for-data-theft/ CmdrRicK (talk) 11:17, 18 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
