Q1: Why does Wikipedia include Elliot Page's deadname?
A1: Wikipedia's guidelines say that we should include the birth name for a living transgender person in the lead sentence only if the person was notable under that name. This is the case for Elliot Page. |
| This article must adhere to the biographies of living persons (BLP) policy, even if it is not a biography, because it contains material about living persons. Contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced must be removed immediately from the article and its talk page, especially if potentially libellous. If such material is repeatedly inserted, or if you have other concerns, please report the issue to this noticeboard. If you are a subject of this article, or acting on behalf of one, and you need help, please see this help page. |

| The contentious topics procedure applies to this article. This article relates to gender-related disputes or controversies or people associated with them. Editors who repeatedly or seriously fail to adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, any expected standards of behaviour, or any normal editorial process may be blocked or restricted by an administrator. |
| This article should adhere to the gender identity guideline because it contains material about one or more trans men. Precedence should be given to self-designation as reported in the most up-to-date reliable sources, anywhere in article space, even when it does not match what is most common in reliable sources. Any person whose gender might be questioned should be referred to by the pronouns, possessive adjectives, and gendered nouns (for example "man/woman", "waiter/waitress", "chairman/chairwoman") that reflect that person's latest expressed gender self-identification. Some people go by singular they pronouns, which are acceptable for use in articles. This applies in references to any phase of that person's life, unless the subject has indicated a preference otherwise. Former, pre-transition names of living persons may only be included if the person was notable while using the name; outside of the main biographical article, such names should only appear once, in a footnote or parentheses. If material violating this guideline is repeatedly inserted, or if there are other related issues, please report the issue to the LGBTQ+ WikiProject, or, in the case of living people, to the BLP noticeboard. |
| This biographical article uses the pronouns he/him/his. |

"Page came out as gay"
On February 14, 2014, Page, who at that time presented as female, came out as gay (Page being attracted to women)
I feel like there has to be a less clunky wording here, even without using the term lesbian. I'm not very familiar with this topic area, so I figure it's worth bringing to the talk page so I don't run into any issues here. Skarmory (talk • contribs) 05:15, 7 March 2025 (UTC)
- "Gynephilic" and "gynosexual"/"gynesexual" are words that mean 'attracted to women', so perhaps using one of these words and linking to Androphilia and gynephilia might make this clearer? There seems to be some controversy around the difference between these two words, so I'm not sure which one would be most appropriate; compare e.g. https://www.health.com/mind-body/health-diversity-inclusion/gynesexual vs https://www.webmd.com/sex/what-is-gynosexuality vs https://lgbtqia.wiki/wiki/Gynesexual vs https://feeld.co/ask-feeld/how-to/understanding-gynesexuality-attraction-to-femininity

- The repeated hedges are indeed confusing, and choosing our own word like gynophile would be inappropriate. Let's say what we mean: On February 14, 2014, Page came out as a lesbian.. –RoxySaunders 🏳️⚧️ (talk • stalk) 17:02, 4 April 2025 (UTC)
- The reason I didn't make that change was a small talk page discussion from 2014, but I'm personally fine with the change as there now is a reason that we can't easily respect the exact wording Page used at the time (it's confusing and requires further explanation). Could somebody please add the 2025 short film 'The Tiger' to the filmography table, in which Page stars as Braxton.
Thank you! :) 82.42.121.25 (talk) 01:08, 25 September 2025 (UTC)

Rose to prominence v. Progression
@Parminder Sarwara I undid your edit first because you misgendered the subject and second because your suggestion that Page couldn't carry a film singlehandedly meant that he wasn't a prominent actor. For one, an actor doesn't have to singlehandedly carry a film to rise to be prominent. For two, I disagree with that characterization. Page has plenty of prominent starring roles. So yes, I undid your edit because your justification was lacking and the edit wasn't an improvement. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n!⚓ 17:17, 7 September 2026 (UTC)
- I do have to say that I'm not sure where the idea that
"Rise to prominence" means an actor becoming a top box office draw or an economic pillar capable of carrying major studio releases
has come from. It seems to be a rather arbitrary definition. — Czello (music) 17:52, 7 September 2026 (UTC) - Your reversion seemed reasonable to me. The edit itself was odd, and the summary gave the impression of bias. ~ Misha Vargas (talk | contribs) 19:16, 7 September 2026 (UTC)

Schooling
If someone is willing to dig into the sources cited in the Early Life section, it would be helpful if the article could offer a little more clarity about Page's early schooling. Right now it looks like he attended up to four different schools while of high school age, but the chronology is fuzzy and there is no explanation of why he transferred around so much. Deadname highlighted twice
I understand the old name being highlighted in the prologue, but what is the reason for restating it in bold later in the "Early life" section? Given there are zero highlighted words in the rest of the article, this seems like an attempt at purposefully deadnaming the person, just for the sake of it. Please remove the entire sentence from the "Early life" section altogether, given it repeats the prologue information. I see the highlighting was done by User:Radiohist in July. --Zverik (talk) 10:21, 17 September 2026 (UTC)
- I'll remove the bold, along with the last name, at the very least. ~ Misha Vargas (talk | contribs) 20:46, 17 September 2026 (UTC)
