Lack of acknowledgement of Sealand
[edit]Ed Sheeran is the Baron of Sealand. Do not forget that. ~2026-36737-46 (talk) 12:43, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
- The article says: "
In 2012, he was named a baron of Sealand.[1]
Are you suggesting some kind of change? Martinevans123 (talk) 13:16, 25 June 2026 (UTC)

Only English?
[edit]If MichaelGambon for example is described as Irish-English then for consistency should Chris Rea not also be described as English-Irish or Irish-English? Likewise Ed Sheeran?
There seems to be a lot of goalpost shifting here with famous people. If an Irish or other nationality person also possesses British nationality they will always accentuate the British or English but the reverse is almost never true. ~2026-44465-23 (talk) 19:40, 13 August 2026 (UTC)
- Does he typically describe himself as Irish? Martinevans123 (talk) 21:25, 13 August 2026 (UTC)
- Did Gambon describe himself as English?
- ...
- Besides, regardless of what he describes himself as, he's legally an Irish citizen through his mother. ~2026-44601-19 (talk) 04:56, 14 August 2026 (UTC)

- I agree with the above.
- Sheeran has, on several occasions, embraced his Irishness and holds and Irish passport.
- The article should be amended to reflect that he is indeed British-Irish. ~2026-47621-63 (talk) 18:56, 2 September 2026 (UTC)
- Are there any WP:RS sources for those several occasions? Is he typically described as "British-Irish" in the media? I suspect rather it's overwhelmingly "English" or "British". Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 20:39, 2 September 2026 (UTC)
- Here's reporting on Sheeran himself classing Irish as his primary cultural identity: https://www.irishnews.com/entertainment/ed-sheerans-irish-roots-as-singer-says-hes-culturally-irish-YTEXX35OMNFCJAKBG73MNUONLU/ ~2026-48745-44 (talk) 08:42, 9 September 2026 (UTC)
- Describing Ed Sheeran as Irish for this reason opens up some interesting questions about other figures in a similar situation:
- James Joyce refused the offer of Irish citizenship and only held British citizenship his entire life, by this logic wouldn't he be only British?
- Oscar Wilde also had British citizenship and spent most of his life there.
- Johnathan Swift was from a time when Dublin was a very English dominated city and hated being stuck on the island of Ireland. Reading his works the description of an Englishman who happened to be born in what is now the republic of Ireland would be a good description.
- George Bernard-Shaw held only British citizenship until late in his life, lived the vast majority of his life in England and even by Irish writer standards had strong English heritage. Surely British and Irish playwright would be a more accurate description?
- They were all heavily influenced by English poets, playwrights and novelists (Particularly Shakespeare, Milton, Spenser, Chaucer, Shelley, Keats, Byron, Blake, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Tennyson, George Eliot, The Bronte's, Dickens, Donne, Austen and Wells), Yeats was extremely influenced by Blake and Shelley. Wouldn't that warrant a description of culturally English?
- On top of that almost every famous Irish writers has English heritage as they were descended from English families who moved over during the colonisation of Ireland, it's no coincidence that they have very English sounding names. There are many figures from other countries who have less equivalent Irish heritage that are attempted to be claimed by the Irish.

- That might be a useful source to add in Personal life, and perhaps to support a quote. But I'm not sure it's enough on its own to warrant a change to the lede section. Martinevans123 (talk) 20:53, 15 September 2026 (UTC)
