Outdated and misleading information
[edit]Under Modern Practices/Mainland China/Decline, the last paragraph:
In the same month, the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture said it considers dogs as "companion animals", not as livestock.
Reference 242 leads to an article in aldf.org, and then the reference 1 in that article leads to a draft catalog posted by moa.gov.cn, and the eventual source material is the Q&A in the second attachment file. The draft from the Chinese government was posted on April 8 2020, asking for comments from the public.
However, the line regarding dog being companion animal was removed in the Q&A for the final 2020 version that was released in May . The reason for not including dog was changed completely, using Korean law as an example saying dogs are not being categorized and managed as livestock in foreign countries.
Until now, there is no legal definition of companion animal in Mainland China.
Proposed change: Remove the said paragraph. Kynsia (talk) 13:44, 23 September 2025 (UTC)
Map in "Current laws" section is unsourced
[edit]The map in the section "Current laws" is unsourced. It is also from 2019, and it is also contradicted by some of the info in the table bellow. Per WP:V the map should be removed.~2026-31445-2 (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 09:50, 15 January 2026 (UTC)

Photo removed
[edit]The main photo here was removed last month in this edit, alongside other visual edits. The removed media is here. Was this accidentally done? It's unsightly imagery, but it fits the topic of the page. Perhaps a better photo could be used (such as on the Iguana meat page), but I don't see a justification, which makes the omission seem notable. Cardiothing (talk) 14:01, 14 April 2026 (UTC)
