Overview

[edit]

DFCC Bank PLC is a licensed commercial and development bank in Sri Lanka. It originated as one of the country’s early development finance institution and currently provides retail, small and medium enterprise (SME), and corporate banking services. The bank continues to engage in development-oriented lending, including financing in sectors such as renewable energy, infrastructure, and agriculture. Alongside this, it serves individual, SME, and corporate customers across Sri Lanka.

DFCC Bank operates a network of branches nationwide and provides access to automated teller machines through the LankaPay network. Its services include online and mobile banking platforms, self-service banking channels, remittance services, and wealth management offerings provided through DFCC Pinnacle.

In addition to commercial banking activities, DFCC Bank functions as a financial services group with operations in areas such as investment banking, asset management, and information technology services, conducted through subsidiaries and partnerships.[8]

History

[edit]

DFCC Bank was established in 1955 under an Act of Parliament as Sri Lanka’s first dedicated development finance institution, with support from the Government of Sri Lanka and the World Bank. [9]

In subsequent decades, the institution supported private sector development, including financing for small and medium-sized enterprises. A dedicated SME unit was established in 1978, followed by regional expansion during the 1980s aimed at increasing access to financial services. [10]

In 2015, DFCC Bank became a fully licensed commercial bank following the amalgamation of its subsidiary, DFCC Vardhana Bank PLC, with the parent entity. This resulted in the consolidation of its development banking operations with retail, SME, and corporate banking services. [11]
