@Любослов Езыкин: are you sure the IP referred to Octets_in_CP866_ordered_by_nibbles.png not to something else? I made the pic from an ancient console-tools psf font, most probably Cyr_a8x8. This variant actually existed. At least this was listed by Figurnov in his book (2nd ed., 1992, p.279) as "modified alternative encoding" (модифицированная альтернативная кодировка).
