Proposal to merge Sulimov dog into #Jackal hybrids

[edit]

The info in the Sulimov dog page is not sufficient to keep it as a separate article, but it would neatly fill out the Canid article.

Two main points here: one, the "dogs" are not yet a breed, and two, they probably never will be given an implied fertility problem . In brief, 35 hybrids since 1975 -- 31 years -- implies a fertility problem.

If there are any Russian language readers/speakers who can access Russian references and correct my assumption, please do so. Gordon | Talk, 19 October 2006 @12:55 UTC

The Merge

[edit]

There having been no discussion, the merge has been done. Gordon | Talk, 29 October 2006 @05:25 UTC

Quality reassessment.

[edit]

There have been a number of REFIMPROVE templates and CITATION REQUESTED templates posted throughout the article dating back to 2013. No citaions have been forthcoming. In an interest in maintaining the quality of Wikiproject Dog-related articles, I have:

  1. removed the REFIMPROVE templates
  2. removed the CITATION REQUESTED templates
  3. removed the challenged material
  4. raised the Quality status of this article from Start to C

If anyone has issues with the removed material, please feel free to reinstate it WITH appropriate citations. Regards, William HarrisWikiProject Dogstalk • 09:26, 10 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Mactals?

[edit]

Should human-dog hybrids (mactals) be added to the list? There are photos and news articles about them all over the place and I have heard of women who had to get abortions after being mated by their dogs.--2602:306:321B:B890:9C27:A003:38E:2C97 (talk) 04:36, 13 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

You have been deceived. A mactal is a human-pig hybrid that only exists in the world of modern art: http://www.hoax-slayer.com/half-pig-photo.shtml I recommend that you might seek more credible sources of news. Regards, William Harris • (talk) • 10:25, 7 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Dox

[edit]

I guess the subject has already been discussed. This page speaks of a hypothetical crossing of the dog with the fox: the dox. Is this a hoax or can it be a paragraph in the article? --Ellicrum (talk) 03:50, 23 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

To quote the article: "this cross is not very well documented. In particular, there seem to be no genetically verified dog-fox hybrids on record." Let me suggest that it was not documented at all, because it is genetically impossible. William Harristalk 10:02, 1 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

What is a species, and what is hybrid?

[edit]

At Talk:Coywolf#What is a species, and what is hybrid?, I have started a discussion about the terminology wrt. hybrids and species, that is perhaps equally relevant to this article. (talk) 13:20, 7 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
