Edit request: early career at Baltic Publishing (trade press)
[edit]| This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. Set |answered=no to reactivate the request if necessary. |
Suggested addition to the early life / career coverage: From 1992 to 1994 Burnham worked at Baltic Publishing in Brentford, writing for specialist trade titles including "Container Management", before becoming a researcher for Tessa Jowell.

Disclosure: I am an editor at Container Management, one of the publications mentioned - see my user page for my COI/paid-contribution disclosure. I am therefore not editing the article myself and would ask an uninvolved editor to review whether this fact merits inclusion, and in what wording. Thank you. KSW1974 (talk) 20:30, 30 August 2026 (UTC)
- It appears as though you are trying to use this article to "advertise" Container Management by including it in a notable person's article. While the fact that he worked at a publishing company may be worth including, we should not put undue weight on one publication (which doesn't have a Wikipedia article, so it wouldn't be helpful for navigation) which he worked with. - Thanks for reviewing. No objection to the concern. I have no attachment to my suggested wording and would be equally happy with either of the following: (a) listing the titles as the cited sources do — "trade titles including Tank World, Container Management and Passenger Rail Management" (GQ and Euronews name all three; The Guardian names Tank World and Container Management) — or (b) simply "specialist trade titles" with the citations and no names at all.
- I proposed the fact because the Baltic Publishing period features in several recent profiles and in Burnham's own retelling on How To Fail (Aug 2026), where he singles out Container Management specifically (his first job in London, per The Guardian) in the context of his HIGNFY anecdote. This is not to promote the magazine, which is exactly why I brought it here rather than editing the article. Wording and inclusion are entirely yours to decide. [edit]it says he was born in "aintree, Lancashire" but aintree is in Liverpool in the county Merseyside not Lancaster. It should say "anitree, liverpool". ~2026-51408-59 (talk) 16:08, 23 September 2026 (UTC)

[edit]@Ighs: When I undid the change you made to the article, you redid your change, still without an explanation as to why you did it, stating Have you read it? "In appropriate circumstances, a summary can be quite brief ("ce" and "rvv" for example, for "copyedit" and "reverting vandalism", respectively).".
Yes, I did read it; yes I know what it means; no, I don't know why you made the original change because merely stating "ce", presumably for a copy edit, doesn't tell me what grammar or spelling error you were correcting. Unless obvious, you need to state why you made the change.
I do not agree that "was" is the equivalent of "served as"; the latter states why something was done (as a service) rather than just simply that it was done. If we agree on a reason for your original change here (not just "I don't like the original"), I will not restore the original. If consensus can't be reached (we can't agree) I'll reset the article to its previous wording.
And please take time to read WP:BRD, which requires you to have started this discussion in the first place. Bazza 7 (talk) 18:33, 30 September 2026 (UTC)
- Apologies for the spiky edit summary. Not been a great day.
- Your reasoning makes sense -- reverting my changes now. LLMs are very prone to writing "served as" in contexts where it doesn't make much sense, hence why I often change the wording a little, but the choice of wording is probably suitable in this case. Ighs (talk) 18:40, 30 September 2026 (UTC)
- Spiky? Spikey? Probably spikey. Who knows Ighs (talk) 18:41, 30 September 2026 (UTC)
